Countdown
Just finished my weekly call with the team (every Wednesday) and all of us are so excited and started counting down. 9 more days to go! Cant wait to meet everyone ! 🙃
Vaccination
Who is terrified of needles 💉💉 ? Me 🙋🏻♀️
I have been recommended by IBM Malaysia Corporate Health & Safety (CHS) to take few vaccines prior to arrival in Senegal. So i took 3 vaccinnes. (yellow fever, hepatitis and typhoid)
I’m not gonna lie. It was so painful! 😖 😣
This video was recorded when I got into the car. It was getting better after I left the hospital. Probably the hospital environment that made me feel that way but it was nothing actually 🙈
CSC Pre Work
Pre work officially commenced on 10th July 2018. All team members were expected to participate and complete a range of activities prior to arrival in Senegal and commencement of the country project. The activities will vary and may be as simple as reading a suggested article, conducting research, doing a group activity or brainstorm and developing a work plan.
We are using an on-line learning delivery program called Edvisor for the pre-work process. They are 17 Modules to be completed prior to departure and the topics are grouped into months (month 1, month 2 and month 3).
I have 3 more modules to go ! Keep going ! 💪🏼
CSC Senegal 5 Team Kick-off Meeting
Our first kick off meeting on 10th July 2018 involved the team (15 of us), facilitator, mentor and CSC Leadership team representative. This was my first time meeting all my team members through webex call and I was thrilled to see everyone 🤗
IBM Corporate Service Corps (CSC)
“Congratulations!!! You’ve been assigned to the Senegal 5 Team with an expected departure date of October 5, 2018.”
The best email I’ve received so far after waiting for 8 months.
I remember the first time I applied to this program back in June 2017 with the thought that I might not get in as CSC application is highly competitive and only 12-15% of applicants, coming from over 50 different countries, are accepted each year.
But it did not stop me to apply. With the support from my Manager, I submitted my application and patiently waited for the outcome. Then, I received email from IBM CSC in Oct 2017 stating that I’ve been accepted to the program. I was elated. The email mentioned that the assigment will be either in year 2018 or 2019.
After being informed of my country assignment in June 2018, I started to google more about Senegal. Below is the map of Senegal.
What is CSC ?
IBM launched the pro bono Corporate Service Corps in 2008 primarily as a vehicle for global leadership development. Teams of from eight to 15 members partner with government, business and civic leaders in emerging markets to address high-priority issues such as education, health and economic development. Individual CSC teams spend three months learning about the communities and the problems they’ll address before spending four weeks on the ground working with local organizations and other relevant local stakeholders to develop recommendations for short-term and long-term actions. It’s a living laboratory for experiments and learning at a time when corporations are under incredible pressure to transform the way they operate because of globalization and technology shifts, and when economic challenges and social instability threaten to slow human progress.
