Uncovering the Conspiracy
~Starter for courtney-drakeblossom ~
The winter sun hung low in the sky, streaking the horizon with pink and bronze, casting long branch-shaped shadows over Wizard City. Lights blinked on, one by one, from building to building, glowing a soft warm yellow that spilled out from the windows onto the street and mingled with the mana blue of the street lights. One such building in particular glowed brightly from within, the kind of inviting atmosphere most would flock to on a chill evening such as this one.
Kiera however, felt no such urgings from the cold. No, she was entering this building for a much different reason. The library was the last place she had checked as she had spent the past half hour attempting to find someone and failing miserably.
She pushed open the door and stepped inside, closing the large mahogany doors after her softly, with no indication of the impatience that niggled and prodded at her, as it had been for the past hour. She'd finished her quests early today, and had been more than delighted to resign to her welcoming tree home and take a good long bath in the mineral rich waters that poured soothingly from a opening just above the base of the large oak. The opportunity to linger and get cleaned up after a long day of fulfilling others needs was a uncommon happening, and she had just been entertaining her fantasies of all the possible things she could do with her afternoon when she remembered she had not gotten back to someone when she said she would and that it had been over a week since she'd half-heartedly pledged her help.
A person whom she was seeking now. Her hair swayed as she scanned the room thoroughly for her target. Not here, it seemed. A reasonable decision, she acquiesced, the main room of the library could often get a bit loud - as loud as a library ever got anyways - and those working on assignments usually went a bit further back and sought out a table closer to the section in which the books pertaining to their subject of research were kept.
She turned to the left and strode past the main desk. She approached a young man who sat reclined in a chair with a stack of books piled next to him, one open in his lap. His silver-white spiky hair stuck out from under his tall hat.
"Boris." Kiera spoke sharply when the young man did not look up from his book immediately when she stood in front of him, having clearly been immersed in his reading. The hint of a small smile curved her lips, he was the same as ever.
"Hey there," He responded, looking up at her expectantly, "What's up?" His eyes were a shocking milky white, but Kiera had since gotten used to them. She came here often whenever she had need to speak to her friend Katie, who, when not around where she usually was, could more often than not be found with Boris in the library.
"I'm looking for the drake section," Kiera responded, rolling her weight on one leg and crossing her arms. "It's been a while since I ventured over into the Dragonspyre sector, as I'm sure you could imagine."
Being a thaumaturge, she did not often have cause to be in a section of the library most prominently occupied by books on fire magic, accounts of apocalyptic history, berserker magic, and the such.
"Of course," Boris pointed her down the first hall, "After you take a right at the end of the hall, it should be the fifth branch on your right."
Kiera nodded her thanks, "I'll let you get back to your reading then." She said, and made her way down the hall.
She followed his instructions and counted the off-branches, turning right onto the 5th one as instructed.
"Ah." There, at one of the tables, floating candles making small circuits round about her head casting a glow that glinted off her light blonde hair, sat Courtney. She was surrounded be books, all sorts of them opened to various pages, but the most large one sat open in the middle, and the passionate pyromancer girl was hunched over it intently and squinting as if trying to see through it down to the floor. Kiera recognized it instantly even as she approached, it was the tome she'd nearly drowned in molten gold to help retrieve. She was still finding gold shavings in her boots and the other day she even found one in her hair.
She stopped in front of the table, "If you get any closer, I'd have thought you were in the staring contest of your life."
