Madeline Salvatore was born in Mystic Falls, Virginia. The relationship between her parents didn’t last however, and soon after her birth, her mother moved them to a small beach town in Florida. Her mother taught her all the things a girl should know and when her father came to visit or she visited him, she learned how to fish, hunt, etc. for she was the first girl born into the family in a long while. Little did she know what her father was truly preparing her for until later on in life. When she was about 16, her mom was diagnosed with cancer and Madeline started taking care of her mom, and not long after that she stopped hearing from her father. After her mom died, she went back to Mystic Falls to find her dad, only to find her two Uncles – Stefan and Damon living in the boarding house.
Madeline took the news of her father’s death hard, especially since she had only just lost her mother recently as well. What was worse was her own Uncle had killed him and she held a grudge against him for ages. Perhaps that was what fueled her battle against the Supernatural. Nobody had been there to save her father, and people like him from only the monsters like Damon. So why not put her hunting skills to better use? Staying in Mystic Falls with her Uncles, she graduated High School, and joined the Police Academy, deciding to do something good with her life.
It wasn’t until after her Uncle Damon’s death, did she leave Mystic Falls. She put in for a transfer and found herself Beacon Hills, California. For a few years, she worked as a cop until she finally worked her way up the ranks and landed herself the position of detective. And anyone can tell you that she's practically married to her job.
