Reidhas just gotten back from a medical conference he‘s been to, and hekeeps talking about one of the panels he’s attended, and Luke isconfused, and if he’s honest with himself, also slightly upset,because Reid keeps saying how amazing this one doctor was, andLuke really doesn’t like hearing that.
After afew minutes, Reid seems to realise that Luke isn’t saying anythingand frowns. “Is everything okay?”
“Sure.”Luke shrugs. “Tell me more about that brilliant doctor.”
Reidlaughs. “What, myself?”
WhenLuke doesn’t react, he frowns again, then his eyebrows go up. “Waita minute. Are you jealous?”
“What?No!”, Luke answers immediately, but when Reid just keeps looking athim, eyebrows still raised, he sighs. “I’m not. I’m just notused to you talking positively about someone else.”
Reidgrins. “Yeah well, I’ve only ever met two people who can competewith my brilliance, so can you blame me?”
“Two?”Luke isn’t sure he wants to know who the other one is.
“Yeah.That doctor at the conference, and of course you.” Reid’s smileis softer now, and Luke blinks. He can’t have heard that right.Reid can’t mean that. He’s not brilliant, or super smart, or anyof the other amazing things Reid is.
ButReid nods and takes his hand. “Of course you. Just because you’renot a neurosurgeon, doesn’t mean you aren’t brilliant. You’rekind, and compassionate, and smart, and funny, and sexy, and amillion other things, and if you don’t believe that, then askKatie, or anyone really, because I never shut up about you. It’sembarrassing, really.”
Overwhelmed,Luke nods and he’s sure there are tears in his eyes. He doesn’tknow what he did to deserve a man like Reid, but there’s reallyonly one response to what he just said. “I love you.”
“Ilove you too.” Reid smiles and leans in to kiss him, and the worldis perfect.
