I found out about the “Smart Boil” initiative that the Canadian Tea and Herbal Association is trying to push recently.
It’s basically, “only boil as much water as you need for your tea”. Apparently, Canadians boil twice as much water as they need for their tea. Though there is no precise source links to any studies, no matter where I look... Hm...
But listen, even if it is true, it doesn’t matter how much you try to restrict carbon emissions and electricity usage on the consumer side. A multimillion dollar international corporation creates far more pollution and uses much, much more electricity than what a few million people who like to drink tea ever do. Putting more regulations on corporations will do far more.
That’s not to say if you like to drink tea that you shouldn’t bother at all though. After all, saving money on the electricity bill is important due to the ever-increasing price of utilities. And since it also helps the planet, even though it’s only a teeny, tiny bit, perhaps that’s enough of a reason for some.
