Hm. How do the people in mottlesong think about changing your name? Because people are spawned with their names right? (Sorry if I'm forgetting) so is it seen as denying a fact about yourself? Also what is the attitude about names for people who were born? Do the parents still name their kid or is that seen as weird? Then again I think you've said something about how parents are seen as the owners of their children so.. hm
Changing ur name is generally fine and normal there’s too much crazy shit going on for ppl to care about that.
But like, there are definitely cultures or circumstances where changing your name is more frowned upon for certain reasons but it’s kind of context dependent. I mean, to be clear Mottlesong is the entire planet so this is like asking how everyone on Earth feels about the concept of changing your name. Which is to say that a lot of people are probably fine with it, but the reasons why one could be against it vary wildly and depend on context.
But also, nobody really knows why you have the name you have when you’re spawned so you could be from a place where the culture is to be renamed by your host family or where the culture is to never add anything to your name. No last name nothing you have One True Name. So. Yknow. Idk.
There is a lot of general confusion and misunderstandings about born children so they do often get treated as the property or projects of their parents. Some parents insist their kids changing their names is very disrespectful cuz they worked really hard on finding a good name :( and with most people not having experience being a child they might just agree with a complaining parent. But like. It depends.
I don’t think most spawn have really thought about it much. Or like, about how alienating it is to be around people who have literally never been children before. Most spawn cousins tell you around what age a child “matures” or is an “adult” and some will therefore default to treating kids like kind of weird adults or treating adults as perpetual children just in case. It sucks
The idea that kids owe something to their parents is unfortunately a pretty common sentiment, prolly cuz parents like to hype up how hard raising a kid is and nobody else really stops to think “ok but you decided to do that and they have to rely on you for literally everything” cuz they have no idea what being a child is like
Anyway yeah it’s normal to name your kid and it’s normal to change your name but the individual circumstances can really impact that. Idk. Shrug
I been slacking on the genders in loose stitches if I’m being fully honest but in my defense I’ve been very busy and am not that interested in explaining in text why a bird that uses he/they is not really a man or what it means to be a woman vs just using she/her or which specific genders xe/xem or it/its can be associated with. Like I’ll get into the idea of culturally specific genders later I guess but it’s honestly not relevant to a lot of ppl in mottlesong. Especially because everyone looks like random animals and concepts and shit
I should probably write this into Cubs section more cuz it will be most relevant to actually talk about it there I guessss :///

Cub strong superiority complex trauma response
