thinking about gender in the hidden city. i feel like theres so many different kinds of yokai and mutants there that they cant possibly have the same gender dimorphism as humans. like they might develop more simplistic cultural signifiers or smth to express that since you can be anything from an anthro animal to a giant insect to a shapeshifter to a blob.

so one idea then would be like, color coding right. this idea is mostly so that the turtles get uncomfortable when trying to express themselves in hidden city culture. like what if women typically wear purple in a way that gets donnie misgendered a lot and then leo tries to wear purple more and she likes that people gender her correctly but donnie is like pissed about it cuz he's the worst and also he doesnt like her encroaching on his color. lmao.

i dont think i'll do that cuz it'd be too hard to keep track of and i like using colors too much to strictly gender them (also might not make sense with the multitude of species and potential genders in the city) but its a thought.
