Cubaton, 413 15th St, Miami Beach, FL 33139
The founder of Cubaton was inspired to bring an affordable Cuban sandwich shop to Miami Beach. The moment you step through the door and smell the roast pork, you know that you’re in for a treat. There are 6 kinds of pressed sandwiches, including a veggie melt, shakes, lemonades, and breakfast (pan con timba, jamon y queso sandwich, tostada). Or you can grab a bottled or canned beverage and a bag of Miss Vickie’s potato chips.
"The Classic" Cubano ($13.50): made with 14-hour slow-roasted mojo pork, hardwood smoked ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard & mayo on Cuban bread. It was balanced with generous amounts of yellow mustard and dill pickles. The ham was thinly sliced. The roast pork was obviously housemade; the pork flavor was present though it was a bit dry. There was an equal amount of ham and roast pork. There were several slices of Swiss cheese. The cheese was melted and the sandwich hot and satisfying. The bread was soft and thin with crisp edges. I also liked the tiny crunchy matchstick plantain fries.
The white and teal shop is cute and clean, with pictures of their sandwiches and coffee. They sell Cubaton mugs, tote bags, t-shirts, and coffee. Coffee drinks are made with Café Bustelo.
Limited indoor and outdoor seating. There is an indoor counter where you can stand and eat as well. Service was very friendly.
