It seems like a lot of people don't understand why there's a giant purple cube in the desert. So I decided to try and explain in one big post.

So to start off we need to go all the way back to the end of season 4 with the rocket launch. On 06/29/18 the rocket was launched by the Visitor, which caused the giant rift in the sky.

During this rocket launch, 2 strange pieces of audio was played during it, and when put into a spectrograph, they showed these images.

The first image were the skulls which were shown on the TV before the event. The second image is a lot more interesting. When decoded, these say "B6", "H9", "I8", and "I9".  B6, I8, and I9 all had rifts appear, that spawned new objects. H9 will be very important later on. There were also other rifts, which took objects away, most notably the Durrr Burger and the tomato head. There were 8 rifts total, including the ones that brought objects into the game. 

This is where things get to the real world, with the Durrr Burger in California.

Someone on twitter by the name of @/selashiloni found the Durrr Burger and posted on twitter, asking what it was. The location was eventually found, and people went there. Shortly after, agents started appearing at the site, handing out cards with the phone number "[phone]" and their name. There was Agent #3678 (FORT), Agent #3742 (EPIC), and 2 agents named Agent #6483 (NITE). (Note: I am not sure if Agents #6483 actually existed, because there is barely any information on them, and they were said to have appeared near the closure of the site.) If you called the phone number on 07/06/18 There would be a noise that resembled the noise the rifts made, when put into a spectrogram, nothing of significance was found. 

On 07/08/2018 the audio changed to a strange noise. When put into a spectrogram, it showed this.

This code was decoded in a similar fashion to the rocket launch code, which says "C7" another coordinate on the map.

More things from fortnite started appearing into the real world, which were the llamas in Europe. 6 were spotted at the time.

On 07/09/18, people around Europe starting spotting many llamas from the game. On 07/10/18 a new audio file was found by dialing "6" while calling the Agent's phone number. When put into a spectrogram there were coordinates. The coordinates (48.8539483, 2.3611878) led to a location in France where the 7th llama was.

In the season 5 cinematic, a clip of Drift and the Durr Burger was shown, where he ended up being transported via rift into the Fortnite world. After the start of season 5, the Durr Burger site was closed.

When the rift reached it's smallest size after shrinking over time, it started striking lightning at a circle of cacti. The lightning struck at one cactus at a time until all of them were destroyed, each strike of lightning being more violent and longer than the last one. When all the cacti were destroyed, it started striking at the rock, when the rock disappeared, it was striking at the ground. 

At 5:04 PM EST on 07/25/18 the event happened, with a long lightning strike,a giant purple cube appearing and the giant rift closing. Now remember how I mentioned H9 earlier? The cube spawned at the coordinates H9.

The cube generates shield when you're near it, bounces you if you touch it, and damages you when you shoot it too much. If you get killed by the cube, the killfeed lists the cube's name as a bunch of mysterious symbols flashing, as if it was glitching. The symbols are also on the cube itself, but it is unknown what they mean.
