Eminem and Kendrick Lamar are like Rap Gods, but Cudi is King Wizard. Mf been in his own lane since he started. First guy to popularize psychedelic/trippy rap. First guy to make it cool to be sensitive asf in hip hop. Rapper who isn’t afraid to sing weird and make random indie songs that don’t even sound like hip hop any more. The rapper who likely has the biggest suicidal fanbase. He’s never been skillfully “the best”, but he’s still a “Greatest of All Time” in his own way. Drake has mainstream success and has reached probably 3-20x (idk, however many more) times the fans Cudi has. Most people would vote to listen to Drake at a party or wherever. But here’s where Cudi is incredible and important ... Drake’s biggest fans likely would be able to survive without his music. Cudi’s biggest fans deadass need his melodic humming and simple, yet sad bars to stay alive. Cudi is the King rapper of being unique, mentally ill, embracing your darkest emotions, and moving forward in life.
