Instead, he draws his sword—a little too effortlessly, really, given the circumstances—and points its cutting edge towards the cook’s trapped foot.

        polly responds with an empty stare. ha. it is not the first time that a lass has deemed himself worthy of her advice. not the last time either, she supposes. polly fishes for a single peanut and crushes its shell above the other’s palm; beak opening the tiniest gap as her ritual concludes — but closing again before any sound comes through. take your peanut and be on your way, boy.
