The first step to making friends new is keeping an open mind and being yourself. It was normally quite easy for Blathers to be himself, but he was still trying to adjust to this new town. Blathers walked up to this particular individual with the same amount of confidence as when he was explaining bugs. That is to say, he wasn't very confident at all. If owls could sweat, he would be doing so.
He had heard that this individual may actually be helpful towards his current goal, so Blathers knew he had to say something. Anything. However, his gift for words decide this would be the perfect time to leave him. He nearly chocked on his words.
"H-hello, my name is Blathers. I hope you are Mr. Cullen."
