something cullen about this...
your father's blood will be your blood until you're both rotting in the ground. when you stare in the mirror, his face will be glaring back at you with the utter disdain and disappointment only a father can truly have.
after kieran gets murdered and the atrocities of the glass cult become part of the 24 hour news cycle, im pretty sure cain legaly changes his surname back to rosales villafuerte but i dont knowwww because he writes so many papers and contributes so much to columbia as 'cain glass, phd' because he meets kieran right after defending his doctoral thesis. but it is worth mentioning that glass is only his last name because of some weird bullshit with kieran where they maybe got married for tax purposes or something.
gabriela's last name is glass bc that was cain's last name when she was born and that's what her mom wanted it to be bc she was super attached to kieran obviously.
and cullen's last name is glass because HE IS THE ELDEST BOY !
what do they think is missing in their lives? { for cullen }
so yes, cullen is a very deeply unsatisfied person. but it's a very general sort of unhappiness - despite his psych education, he's not the best at self-reflection and improvement. he struggles to pinpoint exact things he wants to change or specific goals for self-actualization or just any sort of happiness with his life.
i think at his current age he's definitely started to feel the absence of a meaningful long-term romantic partner. but he is also definitely intent on punishing himself and isolating himself so that he doesn't inadvertently hurt somebody. he still has a lot to unlearn in this department. prone to short-term flings, sabotaging relationships with potential, etc.
do they believe people are destined to suffer? { also cullen- inquiring minds want to know }
no. i think cullen wants the best for people and resents that they do suffer, even when it's largely self-inflicted suffering or could have been avoided by like, purely rational decision making. he very much thinks of people as flimsy and weak though - either inherently or because of their life experiences. so he does see some suffering as inevitable. however, part of his research is, in a way, oriented around reducing the amount of harm that narcissistic abusers can do to people, communities, vulnerable and marginalized groups.
[ 🌀 ]ㅤ ㅤdo they have a recurring dream or nightmare ? - for cullen.
cullen is in a field like one that characterized the landscape of the glass commune where he grew up.
he is planting flowers and the dirt is infested with worms. it almost looks like his fingers have turned into worms.
he tries to leave, but every direction he turns takes him deeper into the field. he encounters various young women who had been recruited by his father. he has dream gibberish conversations with him. they tell him where to go. he continues wandering throughout the field, desperate to make it back to his house, but he never returns home before he wakes up.
