Graphic Communication In Context- Cult Brief Illuminati
I really enjoyed this brief, as branding is my favourite aspect of graphic design. I found it challenging but exciting exploring different possible cults that I could have rebranded. I chose the illuminati as I found the secrecy part of the cult very interesting and with them having no existence in the public eye, it left any opportunities wide open to explore regarding rebranding this cult.
I firstly started off researching into the cult and the background so that I could get a feeling of what the objectives and goals where. Once I found this out I new that I could later on in the project use these goals as strengths to get possible members to join the cult through promotion. After researching into the cult and knowing the background I started to pick out the things that the cut weren’t. This then give me a better understanding of what the cult was and what they wanted.
Then I started to produce colour studies and word associating tasks to get me thinking around the cult and to see what worked and what didn’t work. The colour study task helped me understand what feelings you got when you looked at certain colours, which than I could relate to my cult. I could use this then to get possible members to feel a certain way when they looked at my promotion responses.
I then started to develop my logo so I looked at possible fonts that I could use. The image I wanted to give my cult was that it looked well established so that members can trust and respect the cult, so I knew that the text had to be serious.
I also looked at objects that were associated with my cult such as the famous triangle and the hand signals that re used. I realized that I had to make my logo had give out various messages to potential members such as, Strong, powerful, helpful, watching, and guiding so that I am not showing the bad side to my cult and I am only showing the good side.
Once I had experimented with logo ideas and chose my final logo I went onto promoting my cult. The first idea that I created was an app called ‘VIP Order’ which ranked celebrities in order of, ‘power’, ‘Influence’ and ‘Net Worth’. This app is the most expensive app available to buy on the app store. This app had to be unique so that it gave the app a USP (Unique Selling Point) and a reason for rich people to have as nothing like this has been done before. Once the celebrity has downloaded the app they can check their availability to join this cult so that they can apply for a chance to be apart of it.
Another way of promotion I used was business cards, which could be placed inside expensive luxury items such as, handbags and briefcases. The business cards also could be given out at social events such as, the Oscars and other famous social events were celebrities attend.
The last way of promotion I used for my cult was advertising it in the wallpaper magazine as the world’s most expansive app. This would make the higher class market aware of the app but for the app to have any use to the person they had to be rich, powerful or influential, and if not than the app is useless for them. The price of the app will also put a lot of people not worthy enough to have the app off the idea of buying it, which is a good thing.
Overall I was very happy with the outcomes that I produced which were to rebrand and promote the illuminati.
Advert task
Today we was have competed a full breakdown research task into 6 different adverts. The questions that we had to answer about the advert are above in the picture. By doing this will help us understand our cults more and the questions asked will help breakdown and make branding the cult a lot easier.
Graphic communication in context brief
Today we received this new brief for the graphic communication in context brief. I am overall happy with this brief and looking forward to getting to grips with this new challenge. I will now research into it further.
