with out a common understanding there can be no common sense . Someone need to perpetuate the common understanding and to do so needs to be able to defend it, and to do that they need to understand how and why it works.   There really aren’t that many people that can do what an “elite” member of society should do. Most of the elites now are morally or intellectually corrupt. A fair number of them haven’t thought through what they are doing and some of them clearly don’t have an ability to do so.

High cultures and civilizations just doen’t magically keep going. They  are very complicated and need tending to. Just because our current elite is destroying more than the preserving doesn’t mean we need some elites going forwars
