[road trip saga part one / two / three / four / five / seven]
I was telling my younger cousin about how my brother and I went on a field trip to a cave in forth grade and at first he was very concerned about why we went to something like that, so I started telling him about some of the animals that lived there. When I told him about how bats could hang from the ceiling, he was confused as to how they could get up there, this small ten year old was terrified about the fact bats could fly.

No 10-day advance reservation required for the Saturday 10 AM Rocky Topper or the 2 PM Higgenbotham’s Revenge adventure tours!
At 10 AM CST, you and your crew can join us for the perfect introduction to spelunking, our Rocky Topper Adventure Tour. When you take on the Rocky Topper, you will twist, turn, climb, and wind your way through passages deep within the cavern. You and your group will enjoy the perfect 56-degree climate, share lots of laughs, and make many happy memories to last a lifetime on this adventure.
This spelunking trip is designed for ages 6 and up and takes you through some of the most loved areas of the cave- and with names like “Lemon Squeezer and Bubblegum Alley,” you are guaranteed to have fun! So, grab your family and friends and join us for an incredible underground adventure today!
If you cannot make the 10 o’clock tour, we have a Higgenbotham’s Revenge leaving out at 2 PM CST.
Higgenbotham’s Revenge, for ages 11 and up, is recommended for experienced explorers and thrill seekers in good shape. During this tour, you will follow the historic route of the discoverer, Aaron Higgenbotham. The tour begins with a 1½ mile hike across Cardwell Mountain to the Higgenbotham Entrance. During your wild spelunking adventure, you will encounter narrow passageways, ladders (some up to 20 feet high) and muddy trails. Experience the passageways that are said to have “turned Higgenbotham’s hair white” before he made it out.
The journey is definitely the destination when you take your hiking trip to the next level-UNDERGROUND!

Went 333 Feet Underground for a Little Bit of Bluegrass
Each April, Bluegrass Underground hosts three days of concerts 333 feet below the surface of the earth in Cumberland Caverns.  The latest installation took place April 1-3, 2016 and I had the pleasure of attending all three days. Now in it’s sixth season, the event is filmed for television and will be aired sometime this coming fall. The shows take place in front of a live studio audience, which…
