Gustave Léonard de Jonghe (1829-1893) “The Japanese Fan” (c. 1865) Oil on canvas Orientalism Located in the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, Jacksonville, Florida, United States The woman is the center of the activity in the painting, while the Japanese fan, the object of the title, is merely a small object on the floor. The composition centers on the confrontation between the bird and the young woman. It is uncertain whether the woman is disciplining the cockatoo or the bird is threatening her. The scene in the Japanese screen behind her reinforces the impression of a conflict between two antagonists.

A twitter follower took these really interesting pictures of an Adoration painting at the Cummer Museum; anyone have a clue on more information about it?
