Regarding the 100 to 1

I deleted another one of my posts so I could make this one and have the 100 to 1 still be the 500th post. I have so many things to say about it, I just couldn’t hold myself back anymore.

so, first, this thing is probably going to be the longest thing I’ve written on this blog. It’s already at 2500 words and I’m still not done. So get ready for a whopper of a fic haha.

The darkness didn’t come immediately. Instead it gradually seeped into the cotton dawn, bled the night into daylight to usher dusk far too quickly, the sun barely making an appearance before stealing shadows once more.

Though plentiful the darkness shrouding the end of days was greedy; it bartered in death and did not haggle, commanding hellspawns as usurpers of despair, killing in droves when humans were not killing each other for food.

For few, hope kept them going. Libertus awaited his friend’s arrival in Galahd, but as days turned to weeks and wrist-watches became obsolete, that hope wavered to a near breaking point. He hopped in the used Jeep, previous owner unknown, leaning over the steering wheel with dread heavy in his bones. Wiping sweat from his temple on his sleeve, he tossed the axe in the back seat, pulling out his wallet.

Tucked behind his drivers license still folded perfectly in threes, he kept a yellowed sheet of loose leaf with smudged ink, a secret for him to keep. He thumbed the frayed edges of the paper, almost felt-like from time’s wear and tear, re-reading the poem and message of love he’d memorized months ago. ‘She always had a way with words,’ he thought to himself as the familiar scent of chamomile perfuming the paper tugged harshly on his heartstrings. The edge of her photo poked out from a flap in his wallet and he smiled at her smile, the halo of gold ringlets framing her face…

And he saw the sun again in her, a light he’d considered gone for eternity baptizing him in warmth and bright. He turned the ignition in the vehicle and put it in drive, tucking the old photograph in the rear view mirror.
