Thoughts on the International PreCure: Alo~ha PreCure (Hawaii)
Finally, some actually good representation of people of color. Based on images I found online, their skin tone and hair seem accurate to real-life native Hawaiians, so good on Toei there.
Not to mention, their outfits are super cute. I love the flowers decorating their hair and that they altered their vests to fit their culture more. I think their skirts are nice and do a good job of mirroring Hawaiian skirts.
The Alo~ha Cures are also the only ones besides Happiness Charge and Cure Mirage with a mascot for some reason? Their mascot is Aloalo. Her name is "hibiscus" in Hawaiian, and according to various sources online, in Hawaii, a hibiscus can represent hospitality, beauty, power, and respect. Fitting, since "aloha," along with being used for greetings and farewells, can also mean love, peace, and compassion.
Side note: speaking of mascots, I headcanon that the mascots who were partnered with Cures captured by Phantom either were captured alongside them or escaped and went back to wherever Blue keeps the ones who don't have partners. Also, the idea of Blue keeping the mascots in a safehouse like a pet store or animal shelter until the mascots choose a Cure or Cure team they went to partner with is funny to me.
Edit: There's also an inconsistency in them wearing LovePreBraces when they first appear, but not after. I'm gonna say that they do wear them, though.
Also, more on their attack name: Hawaiian Lino Ahua. Honestly, they can take out the "Hawaiian" part. The rest is from what I can find on the Internet. In Hawaiian grammar, adjectives go after the noun. "Lino" means "shiny, dazzling." "Ahua" means "swelling, tremendous." The official translation seems to be "Grand Dazzle," so that seems to match up,
