I was going to go in-depth about Mary's illness and how I think she had sort of a curse on her rather than a modern disease. I don't really know how she'd get "cured" and I think it'll be best for the writing to be vague anyway. After that though it wouldn't be simple she would still need months of drugs (same as in game or more) and surgery to remove the (for lack of a better word i guess) the rot.

For research, I sadly didn't really take notes or save anything but I dug very deep into the recovery process for Leprosy (what I think is closest to Mary's illness) and Melanoma (what Guy Cihi imagined Mary had to get into character).

For Melanoma the effect it has on skin is very similar to Mary, and it is possible to reconfigure and heal the effected areas into cleaner scars. I also worried that her hairloss would be irreversible but there's absolutely a possibility it'd grow back normal. Mary wouldn't be the same of course but one day I'll draw what I think a post-op recovered Mary looks like with all her scars.

Both Melanoma and Leprosy are curable in modern times (and should have been in 1992 as far as I know) so, I'd like to think if they searched hard enough some doctor could help her with her ancient almost-incurable strain of Magic Civil War Leprosy she got from Toluca Lake.
