      Teddy’s curled up in the corner of his scrappy box under his thin blanket, the one his mother left him with just a few days prior. The only reason the kitten doesn’t leave to wander free is the stubborn belief that his mother is coming back. Her scent still lingers around and it comforts him greatly, even as his stomach grumbles painfully underneath his blanket. His ears twitch and excitement (and hope) get the better of him as he hears footsteps approaching; “Mama?” He asks softly, poking his head above the edge of the box.
