            CHOCOLATE CURLS SHAKE & EYES SLIGHTLY WIDEN, as if Cedric had been sleeping & just woke from a dream, trying to shake the remaining tiredness from him this way. “I’m sorry.” Words are honest. Usually something like this wouldn’t happen to Cedric, he wouldn’t just stop listening to someone, most importantely to someone, entrusted with his physical well - being. But as soon as Cedric had looked up into caramel hues, acompanied by ridiculously WHITE TEETH & a perfectly tousled head of sandy hair, it was like time around him just froze & Cedric simply didn’t hear a single thing, the doctor apart from him just said. “I’m really sorry, I was a little . . . I wasn’t listening. Long night, didn’t get much sleep. Could you maybe repeat what you just said?”

          the  door  slamming  into  the  wall  had  announced  her  presence  to  the  two  inhabitants  of  the  room.    in  particular  to  the  registered  nurse  that  appeared  to  be  selectively  hard  of  hearing  when  it  best  suited  her.   rarely  if  ever  was  rosalie  assigned  the  same  hours  as  carlysle,  but  even  she  had  heard  from  the  rumour  mill  about  how  the  nurse  had  been  following  carlysle’s  every  step  & ignoring  her  patients-   &  rosalie  wasn’t  even  working  in  the  same  section  of  the  hospital  as  them.    they  were  in  the  emergency  room,   she  was  three  floors  up  paediatrics.                rosalie  had  overheard  the  nurse  in  carlysle’s  office  on  her  way  down  to  the  emergency  room  as  the  paediatric  specialist  for  an  incoming  paediatric  that  they  needed  her   to  consult  on.   however,  despite  the  urgency  with  which  she  was  required  in  emergency,  she  knew  she  had  three  minutes  until  the  ambulance  arrived,  &  she  knew  she’d  walked  a  fair  bit  faster  than  a  human  doctor  would  have,  so  she  had  at  least  a  spare  moment  to  help  him  out.    as  the  door  hit  the  wall,  she  was  already  talking,  knowing  that  carlysle  was  the  consultant  in  the  emergency  room  &  would  likely  be  required  for  the  trauma  she  had  been  called  to  assist  with.     ❛  incoming  trauma  doctor  cullen,   eta  2   minutes,   they’re  saying  it  was  a  car  crash-  we  don’t  know  the  specifics  of  any  injuries  yet.  ❜   &  then  she  turned  to  the  nurse,  forcing  a  smile  that  looked  realistic.    ❛  was  there  something  you  needed ?  ❜   thankfully  the  nurse  hadn’t  bothered  trying  anything  else,  instead  stalking  back  of  to  the  patients  she  was  supposed  to  be  looking  after.   with  a  swift  turn  of  her  heel,   rosalie  had  been  quick  to  resume  her  journey  to  the  incoming  paeds  trauma,  carlysle  quickly  falling  into  step  next  to  her,   with  the  unusual  decision  of  his  to  be  annoying.       ❛  would  you  have  preferred  it  if  i’d  come  back  later  once  she’d  ignored  your  request  to  leave  for  the  fourth  time ?  ❜  she  asked  in  response,  voice sharp  as  she  raised  an  eyebrow  at  him  to  punctuate  her  question.   ❛  besides,  the  others  are  going  to  want  your  help  with  this  kid  too.  ❜

  𝐀 𝐌𝐔𝐑𝐊𝐘 𝐄𝐕𝐄 𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒,    as among the passengers of the discovery–  booth deering was nestled in within the ranks of the all-too human masses gathering atop the forecastle of the ship.         it had been many weeks of seafaring and the trip for many had not been easy—    to see the land they so desired to set foot upon, many had prayed for over the past weeks.    the weeping of little children at night had become a common occurrence to ears that could pick up the slightest hitch in breath...    or falter in the beat of a heart.        at least one of the crewmen booth had known of, had been lost to the thrashing waves of a storm and flung over board, tossed to chilly sea foam and pitch black waters.    he’d yet to have ever traveled so far from home, and now that he has...   booth can see why it was that his father had been so hesitant to ever allow it in the first place.          the sea was no place for a boy, that was one of the many reasons the man had used before, keeping his flesh and blood anchored to england’s rocky shores.  

“ mother,    look ! “        a little boy cries to his left,  perched upon his father’s shoulders and staring down to an otter that peered it’s small head out from gray waters,      watching as the ship was dragged into a make shift harbor and it’s anchor laid to rest at the bottom of the river’s edge.      the boats landing to be placed down joining ship to dock, it was as if a collective release of breath fell over both crew and passengers— even booth having found himself exhaling as the first passenger stepped down from the discovery and onto dry land.

it was a day for celebration,    or so booth could gather from the excitement that bristled from onlookers,     new arrivals greeting their loved ones, and strangers that would soon turn into thy neighbor.     however of all these people,   only one stood out as an exceptional beacon on an otherwise hazy new land—     the good doctor, or so booth’s father had been keen to call him.
