Tom.

Well there have been a lot of important people with that name in my life, and since I can’t choose one, this is gonna be a super long reply.

My first “Tom” is a boy I met here on tumblr (he calls himself Tommy, actually, but we’ll go with it) after I posted a picture I drew of me meeting Tomas Kalnoky, the next Tom I’m going to talk about. Well we ended up talking and basically became best friends, and now we talk every day. He lives in Scotland which makes me so sad, but we came to really enjoy ourselves and love each other’s company despite being so far away. It sounds completely ridiculous, but I’ve never really felt so connected to someone before. He’s the only thing that keeps me feeling okay at all, and I really appreciate that more than I can say, and I hope our paths can cross in real life some day; it would destroy me if I lost him. We were thinking of possibly having a visit some time this coming year, and I really hope that can happen!

Alright, Tom #2 is Tomas Kalnoky from Streetlight Manifesto. He isn’t technically someone I know in my real life, but I met him once and I like this story. The songs he writes mean the world to me, especially one, “A Better Place, A Better Time.” Two years ago I was extremely suicidal and getting ready to end my life, and just as I was about to do it that song started playing on my iPod playlist. Basically it’s a song convincing someone to not commit suicide, and spoiler alert: it worked. Since then I’ve felt a huge connection to the man whose song convinced me to keep going, and I’ve considered getting the words tattooed on my arm once I’m old enough. I had the opportunity to meet him last weekend, and unfortunately I was just too emotional and starstruck to really thank him for what he did for me, so I just said hi, shook his hand, took a picture with him, and hugged him goodbye. I really regret not saying more, and I’m writing him a letter that tells this story, hopefully getting a reply back. One of my friends is personally delivering it to him, so I’m really excited to hear what he says.

So there you go, two stories of two Toms in my life. Neither is perfect and neither is finished, but I’m optimistic about both of them and what the future holds, because both are very important in my life, whether my best friend or a distant person who accidentally saved my life.
