Fushigi Yuugi

Fushigi Yūgi (ふしぎ遊戯), also known as Fushigi Yûgi: The Mysterious Play or Curious Play, is a Japanese shōjo manga series written and illustrated by Yuu Watase. It tells the story of two teenaged girls, Miaka and Yui, who are pulled into The Universe of the Four Gods, a mysterious book at the National Library. It is essentially based on four mythological creatures of China. Shogakukan published Fushigi Yûgi in Shōjo Comic in its original serialized form from May 1992 through June 1996, and compiled the series into eighteen tankōbon volumes.

Studio Pierrot adapted the series into a 52-episode anime series. The show originally aired from April 6, 1995 through March 28, 1996 on TV Tokyo. The anime series spawned three Original Video Animation releases, with the first having three episodes, the second having six, and the final OVA, Fushigi Yûgi Eikoden, spanning four episodes.

ℭ𝔲𝔯𝔦𝔬𝔲𝔰𝔢𝔯 & 𝔠𝔲𝔯𝔦𝔬𝔲𝔰𝔢𝔯 ☕ My wise friend @sistertemperancetarot has been bringing up the concept of curious play a lot lately. The idea of a creative process that isn't driven by ending up with a specific result, a packaged product for sale. A creative process where the journey is the goal. When was the last time you scribbled outside the lines? etc. ➿ . I used the @jaymz.marsters class at @the.watt to apply this principle to my main creative medium, hair. I knew I could do the technique we learned at home with any old color line with one of my mannequins. What my goal here today was, exploring the capacity of this color line I'd never worked with before.《 @evohair 𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙄𝙉𝙊 》🎨 . This gave me a chance to see how vibrant the colors were, how much it bled into contrasting colors next to it, how much it covered the underlying pigment of our canvas... a whole bunch of things to explore where I would still learn something valuable without having a particular end result in mind. 🖼 . It has happened but it's very rare to have a client sit down and say "just do whatever" - one client called it jazz hair - so this mannequin was the perfect opportunity to #curiousplay with my craft without a specific aesthetic goal and explore the potential of this new (to me) color line. 👩🏻‍🎨 . For example - I sandwiched a fiery yellow/red color melt in the center of a bunch of pastel pinks and blues. Reds and yellows notoriously bleed into pastels and this line definitely passed that test! 🥳 .
