Fair warning: this post is an update on what's going on with this blog, but it's also a vent for frustration. It is not drafted, not carefully planned, not revised. It's me scribbling my fingers across my device's on-screen keyboard. I don't even ...
and I'm sick of losing hours and hours of work to random errors updating posts, so I'm going to have to make some stylistic changes to this blog going forward.
You really seem to enjoy my over-analysis of potentially overlooked GW2 lore details in these lengthy, in-depth, researched posts.
Unfortunately, Tumblr doesn't. At least, their drafts system doesn't.
As far as I've been able to tell, it seems that posts over a certain length (or perhaps over a certain file size when images are embedded) start to get "Oops, error uploading post" messages when I hit "Save draft" or "Post."
It doesn't seem to be a device-specific bug; since I've tried working from three different Android devices, my Windows PC, and a Chromebook, and I seem to experience the same error consistently.
To it's credit, the Tumblr app keeps trying to save the draft/post in the background, but I've never once recovered my work once it gets stuck in this loop of attempted recovery; even after leaving a device turned on, plugged in, and on reliable 5G WiFi for two days.
Hypothesis: when you press "Save draft," Tumblr attempts to reupload the entire draft, including images
rather than just the edits you've made to it, which is the smarter-but-way-more-complicated way that other cloud-based document editing software - Google Drive - works.
My posts involve a mix of data encoding that Tumblr really isn't designed for
so if a packet goes missing somewhere, the error-correction over-corrects and whole thing falls apart like Jenga blocks.
... I'm not a web dev so that's the best I've got.
I'm tired of fighting it. I'm frustrated and I want to move forward already.
Rant over. Catharsis achieved. Here's what's next:
I'll be experimenting with a different style of post going forward. I'm not yet sure what that style is; just that it will be shorter, perhaps more frequent, rather than the long-form blog posts I've been doing.
The next few posts may seem a little behind-the-times. That's partly because I am!
I wasn't able to play Bug In The System at release, so I'll be playing it with @edmundgrey my usual partner in causal PvE crimes very soon! We've played up through "A Kindness Repaid" and there's a lot I want to look into with the Inquest and particularly the Olmakhan!
I'll also be reblogging more GW2 community posts: especially anything of particular interest or that fits the science-y theme of the blog.
Have an awesome day, and thanks for reading!
