My current favourite hair products
I’ve made a few changes over the past few months to my hair regime. Gone are the days when I’d co-wash my hair practically every day after a sweaty gym session, which I must say, has really helped my hair grow and stop breaking!
Over the past year a lot has changed- I’ve got a new job and had a beautiful daughter. So as you can imagine my priorities have changed quite a bit. During my pregnancy my hair got thicker, shinier and I didn’t need to wash it as often. I was chuffed.
After my pregnancy my hair has gone back to normal, with a little more shedding so I’ve been taking extra care of it to make sure I reduce the risk of damage as much as possible.
Anyway, i’ve finally arrived at a place where I feel I know my hair pretty well. It’s taken years to get to this point- if my hair is frizzy or dry I know it’s because my hair doesn’t like a certain product/hairstyle/grooming technique/tool or due to hormonal changes. I thought I’d share with you guys what works for me.So let’s get to it;
Oil :I used to opt for coconut oil as my go to scalp oil. I’ve found olive oil is amazing on my hair now- I use extra virgin that you can buy at any supermarket I usually apply the oil to my roots and massage into my scalp after washing for a few minutes. I also apply the olive oil to smoothen my hair ends to stop them frizzing.
Serum: I use a hair serum which adds shine without weighing my fine-medium textured 3c curls down after washing. I really love using John Frieda Frizz Ease concentrated formula but the bottles are so tiny and so so expensive. I use it very sparingly.
Conditioner: I am enjoying using Garner Fructose as my wash-out conditioner and Herbal Essences original conditioner as my leave in. My mum used to use Herbal Essences on my hair years ago an I thought i’d give its whirl again after looking back at my hair in some photos and seeing how happy it was. I’m glad I did. It isn’t too drying for my hair. TIP: Use a dollop of melted oil or serum and mix into the conditioner as a deep treatment- lovely results!
Shampoo: I’ve been experimenting with no-poo cleansing. I really want to steer clear of shampoo because I can literally feel how it strips everything (including the natural oils) from my hair afterwards. BUT I need to get rid of the product build up too. So, currently I co-wash my hair every 1-2 weeks. I use apple cider vinegar to cut through buildup and really have a good massage of my scalp on washday. Once a month or so, I’ll use a shampoo like T-Gel which contains natural coal tar to really cleanse my scalp and eliminate any itchiness.
I’ll be answering all hair care questions in as much detail as possible so if you have any, drop me a message!
