THE FIRST NIGHT WITH THE DUKE - Episodes 5 & 6 (Thought Dump)
THE ROMCOM IS ROMCOM-ING!!!!!!!!!
Initially, I am surprised that we are experiencing these fluff scenes early on, in just 5 episodes! But then, given this is only 12 episodes, the pacing is on the right track as we're already halfway through the story. What's even more exciting is on the next episode, we're encountering another bump in the road for Seonchaek & Beon's story. I, unfortunately, have spoiled myself on the role of the new character (redacting for a spoiler-free post) through a Twitter post, so all I can say is, I can't wait what happens next. It's also so fun to see that every two episodes or one week they encounter certain challenges and resolves it within the week as well. This week, they started and ended the bride selection process.
At Episode 5, we saw Seonchaek and Beon giving in to their feelings and being more expressive. At Episode 6, we see her be jealous, and him remembering their first night (DAMN!). They're both so into each other that she can match his freak and obsessive behavior. It just makes you so happy to see two people fighting for each other, rightfully so. And the way Beon tried to end the Do family's malicious scheme through the foreigner? Crazy. Amazing. Well-executed. I applauded instinctively though I was not on the queen's room.
I personally love that throughout the run, each episodes end in a light-hearted and heart-fluttering way. They (almost) always usually gracefully end certain arcs each episode/week, so the only "cliffhanger" we feel is the anticipation of wanting to see more romantic (or funny) scenes from our characters. It does not leave you frustrated about something except for the long wait on the next episode. (Or maybe, I'm just still traumatized by Snowdrop). In this tough time in the world, it's what we need.
And the songs so far? AMAZING selection. I almost sobbed on the last scene as it was soooo beautiful. I'm not sure but would Seohyun and Taecyeon sing something for the drama?
Now that we're halfway, I am torn between wanting to speed up the days to see more episodes, or to stop the time so it won't end. Either way, I can always enjoy rewatching the episodes until we reach Wednesday again.
