I've enjoyed watching the World Cup (yay, Haaland and Bellingham!) and will be tuning into the Final. But I'm also back on my American Football kick by starting the new season of Quarterback, a docuseries about one of the most important positions on the team.
Dream To You (ep2) Second chance romances are a tough sell for me, even though I love Hwang In Yeop and Lee Hyeri. Fortunately, this is more of an interrupted romance that was stopped pre-flight due to malfunctions, had a very, very long delay, and is now getting ready for take off. Stylistically and storywise this is an ode to film and filmmakers. Showing us the inspiration and joy as well as the adversity and sorrow behind it all.
The title 'Dream to You' (그대에게 드림) is jarring to me due to its broken English. It should be translated more like 'give (or offer) a dream to you'. I put the title through Papago, Korea's top translating app, and it was translated as 'dream to you' which is likely where the production company got it. I hate to break it to you Korea but Papago is wrong. I'm begging you, please get native English speakers to double check your titles. (I will never be over the fact that The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, a drama about elite education, is grammatically incorrect in English. Hagwon (aka Academy) is thing, not a place, and therefore needs either "a" or "an" before it or needs an "s" at the end to make it plural. However, The Midnight Hagwon Romance was sitting right there.) Google translated the title as 'Dedicated to You' which is not correct either. After watching the first episode, it was clear this drama should have been titled 'Returning Your Dream' since the ML stole the FL's dream, found success, and has come back to return her dream to her so they can be successful together in life and love. I am looking forward to seeing them struggle to make it happen.
See You At Work Tomorrow! (ep8) I waited to watch this week's episodes until yesterday. And I don't know if it was the hot and humid weather or my mood, but I wasn't feeling this show as much and even got a little bored. Did the delicious tension leave us? At least we had some cute couple moments and SIG continues to reign as a Kissing King. I swear there are no bad kisses with him.
Dong Yi (ep32) I got a week ahead of our saguek group watch since I had to see how Dong Yi and our King's romance would start to play out. I have high hopes that Scholar Beans (love this ridiculous name!) will join our merry band to restore justice to the land. Seolock Holmes and Cheonsu continue to be awesome.
Lovely Runner (rewatch; finished) is still so satisfying! It's hilarious. Fantastic ride or die romance. A great supporting cast. An extended epilogue that hits all the right notes. Loved every minute. It's my #4 All-Time Favorite Kdrama for a reason.
Can't wait to start The East Palace! It's Nam Joo Hyuk's first post-military drama and my first Cho Seung Woo drama since I fell in love with him 5 years ago in my very first kdramas (Sisyphus: The Myth, Stranger, and Life).
• Birds of a feather (SolJae) LOVELY RUNNER [+1x10 ]
It took me 2 years to finally watch this masterpiece and I don't know why I waited for so long but now I finally get it : Im Sol and Sun Jae's story is simply out of this world, it's unforgettable!! it's so beautiful that it's very hard to even explain it so I edit to share all my emotions. I plan a second edit for the last episodes !
Nothing could prepare me for the absolute brilliance of everything that is Lovely Runner. It took me 2 years to join the party and now I almost feel enlightened & loved by the Universe bcz it made me watch it lol. No seriously, I think that nothing will ever feel like this one does. They put real magic into it.
Now the downside is that I feel empty because it’s over for me. I’m gonna miss Sol and Sunjae so much. Every moment is so full of emotions, even the "smallest" moments like Grand-ma and Sun Jae made me tear up.
Lovely Runner is THAT rom-com. An epic one that I will never forget.
embarrassed I did not realize the kdrama im watching is one THE jongho did the OST for until a scene where the main character is sitting on the hospital floor crying
anyway i too will be crying it's been a long night
See You at Work Tomorrow! (ep6) is turning out to be a really interesting slice-of-life romance. I love how they handled their conflicting emotions, motivations, and miscommunications about their feelings. Their actions were natural and understandable which led to some of the most beautifully direct yet understated love confessions. The secondary noona romance is equally refreshing. I like the notion that the best revenge is to become happier than your ex. I want to see her achieve it.
The First Jasmine (finished) This was a well-told revenge/healing drama that plays out like a poetic chess match. I love the chemistry between Cheng Lei and Bai Lu. However, the focus is on the individuals journeys more than on romance. Though what romance we get is touching and wonderful.
Dong Yi (ep24) I’m here for the Seolock Holmes and Cheonsu team up! Dong Yi defies death yet again. I like seeing her out in the world using her skills and making friends. The new secret scholar is looking like a promising ally. And absence makes the heart grow fonder for Dong Yi and our King.
Lovely Runner (rewatch; ep12) It’s now been 2 years since it aired. I had been waiting to rewatch. I still love this as much as the first time! Sol is a feisty bulldozer of sunshine. Sunjae is the best loser in love, without being a total pushover. I’m still 100% invested in their relationship. The hilarious supporting cast is the best, especially Taesung and Inhyuk. RIP Sunny. 🤣 This is absolutely retaining its spot as a top drama.
Do you get deja vu?
is this a "not legally mcr" mcr shirt in my kdrama??
