Curse Week - Taglocks, turning your spell into a guided missile
We’re going back to basics with this one, but the basics are essential.
What is a taglock?
The definition of a mundane taglock is a matted or tangled bit of hair. Metaphysically a taglock is anything tangled with your target’s being or identity, and because it’s tangled with the target it creates a sympathetic connection to that target.
By working magic on something that’s connected to the target, you are essentially working directly on that target. This means the ability for your spell to find the target and affect the target is greatly improved. Traditionally something physically of the target is a very strong taglock, especially if it’s part of the target, like hair, blood, or a finger print. Good luck getting something physical of a high value target, but there are other things that can be intrinsically tied to a target’s being. We’re going to go over some real basic taglocks that should be viable to find.
Photos - This is a visual representation of a target, and can be much stronger than I feel a lot of people consider. It is their image and no one else’s image. Even if they look like someone else, a photo might as well be a finger print.
An Address - Not only is it where they live, it has many other connections to them outside of witchcraft. It’s where they get their mail, it’s what they put on their taxes, it’s where people know to find them. An address is a representation of the web of connections they have associated to a location.
Names and titles - People underestimate knowing a targets name, and they really underestimate knowing the more intimate details of a name, and the parts of a name that are earned and associated with them. A name is the address of a person’s identity, who they are to themselves, and who they are to those around them.
Most of these things are all fairly easy to acquire in most situations, even for high value targets (though be aware, some popular targets have moved since the public record was updated. Double check and research addresses.)
So, next let’s go over some ideas of how you could use these taglocks.
Photos can be used as is, just a printed out picture you can write a spell on, burn, bury, tape to a dart board, or shred and mix to something else. Basically anything you could do with paper you can do on a printed paper. You can also attach a photo to a poppet, or sow it inside the poppet. Stick that picture in a jar with a bunch of horrible things. Photos are very versatile, especially if you print them out. If you don’t have a printer you can just direct the spell at your phone or PC with a picture of that asshole displayed.
Addresses can be incorporated into things like petitions, or you could put your spell in an envelope or package(see yesterday’s post)(also don’t actually mail that, because that can get you in some deep trouble). Using a secure VPN, you could look up the address on something like google maps to get a better idea of where your spell is going and visualize that target.
Names are the key element for traditional sigils, so turn their name into one and hold more power over them. Also, very easy to use in a petition. You could literally curse their name, like literally just as simple as “Fuck you, [name]! Have some fucking rage!” and work some magic off that.
There is a last taglock I want to mention before we wrap this post up. That taglock is your spell. Working a spell on someone can link you back to them, meaning if they have anti-curse protection, then they can potentially seek revenge.
Personally, when I cast a spell I don’t want coming back at me, as soon a I’m done with it I cut ties with it. You can make a spell where you cut a symbolic string, detaching you from the spell after it’s let loose, and you can even take the side tied to the spell and drop it in a decoy jar, so if it does come back it doesn’t find you, but the decoy. Make sure your protections are up and be ready for retaliation. I mention some stuff in yesterday’s post about that too.
Hopefully you guys find this helpful. Really, send me questions or topics. I came up with the idea of Curse Week before coming up with 7 post ideas, so I could use some prompts and ideas.
