Prompts - Getting lost at a holiday market and “I’m sitting with the cat. He’s cool.”
This is my submission for @the-slumberparty Winter Whims mini Challenge. @navybrat817 and @darkficsyouneveraskedfor Thank you so much for hosting another lovely challenge and continuing to come up with prompts that spark the muse! Love you both! 🩵
Today is a big day for Curtis, and he is really hoping there is some holiday magic on his side. Because today Curtis is taking your son on a solo outing. You and Curtis have been dating for almost 3 years. Naturally with you being a single mom the two of you took it rather slow at first. Then about a year ago you finally felt comfortable enough to introduce him to your son Jasper. And honestly it went better than he could have imagined.
It's been a long road to get here and Curtis is aware of the significance of it all and he is trying not to be too intimidated. It's clear you trust him. After all this was supposed to be a family outing all 3 of you were supposed to check out this Christmas market together. But you weren't feeling well and rather than push yourself too hard you simply just gave Curtis a slight shrug and said "it's fine you two go on without me." In such a casual fashion.
Granted Curtis has logged plenty of hours with your son Jasper at this point. Helping with drop off and pick ups for school and extracurriculars. They've even started doing 'boys night' when you're working late or want to go out with your girlfriends. But this market is almost an hour away. It is a full day activity with just him and Jasper. This is definitely the biggest outing Curtis has done so far with your son and it makes his heart race with both joy and nerves.
He knows this is what you 3 have been building towards. A life, together, a family. The 3 of you and maybe even 1 more. You've talked about it of course you have. You made it very clear Curtis wasn't going to be able to meet your son if he wasn't actually going to stick around and so… he made sure to stick around. To open himself up to love and give love in return. And now here he is in a happy, healthy, loving relationship with you. And it is by far the best thing that's ever happened to him.
He's determined to make this day count. For all of you.
The day started off fine. The ride to the market was long but easy. As soon as they arrive Curtis and Jasper beeline it straight to the hot chocolate stand as soon as they arrived. They're having a blast checking out vendors and joking and paling around. And everything is going incredibly well. Or at least…it was.
Curtis isn't sure how this happened. One second he was at one of stands chatting with the vendor about bath salts and shower bombs. Jasper was right here with him one second and then the next second gone. He is trying not to panic. But how could he not? You trusted Curtis with your son. And now he may have lost him and he will never forgive himself!
He starts retracing his steps hoping Jasper maybe went back to one of the previous booths they stopped at. He assumes the market probably has a loud speaker system maybe he should find someone who works here and have them make an announcement…?
Curtis is doing his best to stay calm and figure out his next move when he hears it. Jaspers laugh. He follows that sound like his life depends on it and low and behold he turns the corner and he is finally able to breathe. As soon as he lays eyes on your beautiful little boy it's like his heart can finally start beating again.
His sigh of relief is audible. After sending a quick thanks to God, the universe or whoever else might be listing up there he makes his way over to your son.
Curtis approaches Jasper where he is sprawled on a rug playing with a fluffy grey cat. Turns out there is a book store stand and the owner happened to bring her cat Theodore with her. And somehow your son managed to find them.
Curtis let's Jasper play with the cat for a few more minutes with the owners permission of course. After which he has to explain to Jasper why he can't just wander off like that. He makes sure to keep his tone calm and even using techniques from all those Parenting reels he's watched and books he's been reading.
He doesn't realize it now but this is the moment when Curtis starts shifting from Mom's boyfriend into a co-parent. And it feels wonderful, and delightful and a little terrifying. But he wouldn't have it any other way.
Minus that little hiccup Curtis and Jasper have the best day. They get a whole lot of shopping done they both find gifts for Mama. They grab a hot chocolate for the road and jump in the car to race back home to you.
He just looks so nervous, unsure. So unlike the Curtis we're used to. I wonder what made him this way?
A blind date at a fancy restaurant? What was I thinking, Curtis internally laments.
In truth, he knows how Edgar talked him into it. He's been lonely for too long. Over seven years since he's even been on a date, let alone connected with someone. With Edgar, understandably, spending more and more time with his wife, Curtis is feeling lonelier than ever.
And that's how he ended up here, at a fancy restaurant he could barely afford. He gave his name to the hostess who escorted him to a private dining area. His breath hitches a little when he sees you.
You smile and stand to greet him, extending your hand. He shakes your hand but internally winces, thinking he should have kissed it with how elegant you look. Thankfully you don't seem offended and gesture for the two of you to sit.
Curtis is so far out of his comfort zone but the more you talk to him, the more at ease he feels. His smile feels less and less forced. You even seem to light up when he asks for your opinions on what to order, even more so when he doesn't immediately dismiss them. He can't help but wince at the costs but the fact that you're taking his tastes and preferences into considerations, as opposed to just the most expensive items, helps him trust your suggestions.
The conversation covers a wide range of topics. Curtis appreciates that you don't try to dominate the conversation, that you're patient when he needs a minute to think about what he wants to say. He definitely understands why Edgar set this date up. Even the arrival of the food doesn't hinder the talking and laughing between the two of you.
After the meal he gets nervous again. He's not looking forward to the bill, but he's had such a wonderful time and wants to be a gentleman. But as the conversation continues and the plates are cleared away, no bill arrives. Curtis gets more nervous and confused and it's distracting from the date.
"Are you okay, Curtis?"
"Just...I don't want to be rude, but...where's the check? It's not that I want this date to end, of course! But, I...I don't want to...I want to make sure our tab is settled."
You giggle a little, "don't worry about that. I own this restaurant. It's why I asked to meet you here." Curtis's eyes go wide at your confession and you giggle again. "I always have first dates here because it's a safe place for me. If it turns out that my date is a jackass, I definitely stick them with the bill and never see them again. But for a date as nice as you, I've got it covered." You give him a wink and he blushes.
"Does this mean you're up for a second date?" he asks, eyes almost pleading.
Look, we can go with the obvious and say it's jakey, but this also could be Curtis
A/N: It is way past my bedtime as I write this. Consider that a warning as well. 🤣
"Curtis, it was literally coffee in the break room," you tell him. He looks at you with those beautiful blue eyes, clouded by confusion. "That doesn't count as a date."
"Why not?"
"Because that's just friendly conversation."
"Isn't that what all first dates are?"
You shrug, "that's what all first dates should be, I suppose."
"So we were dating," he asserts.
"No, we were talking."
"Again, how is that not a date?"
"Because it was at work?"
He thinks for a moment. "Okay, I might have to give you that one."
"Not to mention you never once asked me if I wanted to go on a date."
"You were the one to initiate the conversation," he gently chides as he points a finger at you. "I'm not a talker but you started chatting so I figured you were interested."
You give him a quizzical look. "Do you not realize how crazy that sounds? Sometimes people just want to chat."
"Not with me, they don't." He crosses his arms, "only time I get chatted up is when a person is interested in flirting."
"I didn't flirt with you!"
"You complimented my coffee cup!" He raises his hands in exasperation.
"Because it was legitimately funny! Besides, how is that flirting and not just chatting?"
"Because who the hell just compliments someone's dumb coffee mug? You clearly wanted to get to know me better, so you used the coffee mug as a conversation starter," he huffs. "You're not the first person to do that to me."
You cross your arms, "you mean someone actually expected you to date them because they were idly chatting with you?"
"Yes! Why is that so surprising?"
"You know what, I'll give you that one," you nod. "You are damn handsome."
"Thank you," Curtis smiles. "So, do you still want to go out?"

You groaned as the sunlight hit your face, warming you through the cold air of the house. As you tried to stretch your limbs, you felt resistance from a familiar weight above and below you.
Your eyes fluttered open, taking in the sight of the rumpled comforter that had been kicked towards the bottom of the bed sometime during the night, now sitting just below your waist and that of the rock on which you laid. Into your field of vision came a large hand holding something small. You blinked in an attempt to focus the rainbow color assaulting your retinas until it formed a shape: a cupcake plushie with a smiling face and a candle on top. You sleepily grinned and turned, hiding your face into the mound you were sprawled across. In fact, that firm, dense object your were on top of was Curtis’s chest, and you snorted into the space between his pecs where you had tucked your nose.
You felt your head bounce and rumble from his laugh and the sound of his deep, scratchy morning voice. “Happy birthday, Biscuit. I hope it’s a sweet one.”
You playfully groaned, bringing one hand up by your head on his chest, the other haphazardly reaching and searching for his face, fingertips bumping his shoulder and chin on the way to his rough cheek, eliciting near giggles from your boyfriend.
Your thumb stroked his beard and you turned your head just enough so he could understand the words coming out of your squished mouth.
“I wanna push you for being so cheesy with that joke, but I think if I pull my head off your chest, I might die.”
Curtis chuckled as he combed his fingers through your hair, craning his neck to give you a kiss on the forehead. He knew how much you loved being pressed close to him, especially with how cozy and cuddly you often were in the mornings.
“Well we wouldn’t want that. Not today. We can do whatever you want, and if that’s staying in bed forever, so be it. I can cancel the special lunch reservations I made and we can try that new K-pot restaurant some other time-“
You gasped and tilted your head up to see him, still not detaching yourself from how your were latched on, his chest hair gently scratching your cheek as you looked up at his soft smile through your eyelashes you were now batting.
“Lunch, you say? K-pot….you say?”
Curtis beamed. “Yeah, but if you don’t want lunch from there, we can stay here. It’s your day.”
You furrowed your brow, and finally pushed your palms firmly into Curtis’s belly to sit up. He scooted his body up so he was leaning against the headboard and you followed, leaning in for a quick peck while you reached across him to grab the cupcake plushie.
“Thank you for this, Curtis. I love it. And I love you. But who said we have to choose, why can’t be have both?”
You sat back on your haunches, pulling the plushie closer to you and finally examining it. It was adorable, and all that you could imagine was your big, broody boyfriend carrying it up to the checkout counter at the store. Its bright, neon nature was in great contrast to the cold, dark colors he often wore, which brought an even bigger smile to your face. You reached across Curtis once again to place the plushie on the nightstand and he took that opportunity to grab your waist with both of his big hands, guiding you to sit firmly in his lap. You squealed in surprise, but settled quickly when you saw the way he looked up at you with an earnest, reverent smile. The two of you let out a sigh of content as his fingertips gently stroked up and down your sides, teasing the hem of your tank top upwards. His tongue darted out over his bottom lip at the sight but his eyes quickly looked up at you with a mischievous glint.
“Well who am I to deny you that today? We have time for whatever you want. Lunch out and then a little dessert at home?”
You leaned in, both of your hands moving to frame his face as your nose teased his and you nodded.
“Yeah. And maybe a little morning delight?”
He tilted his head to yours to press your lips together before deepening the kiss, his hands coming up to weave into your hair. Lost in the closeness, you began to grind against him, drinking in his low growl. You could feel him growing hard against your thigh. He pulled you away, panting and looking up, his eyes shifting between yours, brow furrowed in a way that concerned you.
“What? What’s wrong? You don’t wanna do this right now? Did you have something else planned? I was hoping you’d let me love on you a little before I have a food baby and meat sweats. We have time for that, right?”
He nodded, awestruck at your acute observation that only sometimes went overboard. You were everything to him and he wanted to treat you like it. “Yes, yes. We have time. It’s just… it’s your birthday. I wanted this to be about you. Let me love on you.”
His eyes shut and he threw his head back with a groan as you continued the slow movement of your hips, your hands moving to his shoulders now. His fingertips dug slightly into your plush curves a little more in an attempt to restrain himself from bucking up into you. He swallowed and took a deep breath to prepare to speak, but you gently placed your lips against his to stop him. His gaze met yours and you could see the love and want to pamper you today in his eyes.
“It’s okay. I promise, big man. This is a treat for me as much as it is for you, and I don’t know what more I can do to show you that.”
His lips simply parted in a breath and he finally acquiesced with a nod as you grinned at him.
“So is that a yes? You’ll let me have what I want on my special day?”
He guided you to rock against him with more pressure, his voice strained.
“God, yes, Sweets. Take whatever you need.”
You bit your lip and giggled, watching Curtis reach an arm out to turn the new plushie away on the nightstand so it wasn’t facing what was about to happen, your hands tracing down teasingly over his chest and abs to the waistband of his boxer briefs.
“Gladly.”
Your fingers tucked underneath the elastic, not before swiping your pointer finger across his treasure trail, through the soft hair. Curtis shivered and lifted his hips as you used both of your hands to gently pull down the fabric to his mid thigh. You couldn’t move this slowly anymore, though. You needed him as desperately as he needed you, so you pulled your pajama shorts to the side and placed the center of his length between your lower lips.
Curtis could feel the way your arousal deliciously let you slide against him as he guided you along his bare length. Your hands clawed their way back up his abs and to his chest. You found your rhythm grinding against him as you let out a whine the first time his broad tip bumped your clit. You listened to the way Curtis’s breath hitched at the sensation, his soft gasps egging you on to move faster.
As you your nails dug slightly into the muscle of his pecs, your arms were pressing your boobs together, drawing Curtis’s attention, and he pulled down the neck of your tank top to expose them. He leaned his head forward and latched his mouth onto one nipple, tongue laving and teeth gently scraping the sensitive skin, hand massaging the other. You threw your head back, whining at the mixed sensations overtaking both ends of your body. He growled against you, his other hand continuing to encourage your movements that were starting to falter. His breathy praises were mumbled into your saliva-covered flesh.
“Keep going. Come on, Sweets. Are you close? You feel so good. Always so good. Please. Please come with me.”
You clenched your eyes shut and nodded fervently, hands fisting the coarse hair that laid between your fingers.
You pushed your chest towards his face again, the back and forth movements of your hips becoming frantic as Curtis planted his feet on the bed and began to thrust to meet you. The pleasureful friction was pushing you towards your peak, as your back arched, pushing you even closer to him. The combined feeling of his tongue and beard against you, the powerful movement of his body, his little grunts and moans on your skin, and just the sheer love of the moment was enough to tip you over the edge as you keened. Your orgasm hit you like a shockwave from your clenched toes to your nose as your body jerked and your knees squeezed against his narrow hips. He released your nipple with a pop to watch you writhe in his lap: one of his favorite views.
Curtis wasn’t far behind you, especially since you reached behind your back to roll his balls in your hand, gently tugging them as he ground your overstimulated cunt on his twitching cock, his spend quickly shooting out onto his lower stomach accompanied by a deep, guttural moan. It was music to your ears and a tickle to your mind with the way you affected him.
You couldn’t pull your eyes away from the sight for a few moments, half zoned out from exhaustion, half mesmerized by the beauty of his firm, yet somehow soft tummy carrying the evidence of your shared pleasure.
You collapsed onto his chest, your head nuzzling into his neck as you happily and dreamily sighed.
“That was perfect, Curtis. Thank you.”
His callused fingertips were now gently caressing your bare shoulders in small circles, lulling you into a content sleep, almost.
“I should be thanking you for that.”
He checked his nonexistent watch. Before you could even register what was happening, Curtis had scooted down the bed, his buff arms easily lifting you over his face as you squealed once again in surprise at the way he could so easily manhandle you. You could feel the rough, yet pleasant scratch of his beard between your legs and the heat of his breath.
“Yeah, Biscuit. We’ve got just enough time for you to ride my face, and probably a bath. Then it’s time for me to take my best girl to lunch.”
Your hands flew to the headboard, knuckles already preemptively sore from your tight clutch as Curtis got to work celebrating you in another one of his favorite ways.
This feels like a bouquet, so here you go! 💐🎂It was another long day of you and Curtis both having to work, which was…less than ideal considering it was his birthday. The two of you had been burning both ends, and you knew that even if you got home at a decent hour, his current project would have him getting home late, probably when you were already in bed. So the two of you decided to celebrate over the weekend. Nothing grand, but a nice dinner out at his favorite place, followed by a quiet night spent at his whims. It didn’t mean you didn’t want to celebrate him at least a little today, though. So you enlisted a coworker to bring in a small tasting cake to set in the fridge to greet him when he came home, but you were surprised to look up from your desk and see him sauntering in. He decided there was no better place than to be than with you on his break, even if he couldn’t stay too long before he had to head back. You instantly beamed upon seeing him as he shared the look and leaned in to give you a kiss. The two of you take the opportunity of the shared time to celebrate, giving each other bites of the celebratory dessert on plasticware from the break room. He leaves you with a final peck, the taste of frosting still on his lips, as he thanks you for making this one of the best birthdays yet, simplicity and all.
This was so adorably sweet! Celebrating on the weekend after is something I often do for my own birthday (it's almost always in the middle of the work week).
But the two of us being on the same wavelength regarding the little lunch break? Just perfect!! So sweet and shows how in sync we are in our relationship. 🥹
Curtis told you not to in that room. Now it's too late to unsee what's inside.
I've got fluffy and dark possibilities for this. Let's see which one is the favorite!
Fluff:
"Curtis," you call out, ready to go to the Summerween Party. "Curtis, honey, we're gonna be late!" You walk over to the bedroom door. "Are you ok?"
You hear Curtis grumbling something about looking ridiculous. As you go to open the door he blocks it with his foot.
"I'm... I'm ok," he tells you. "Just...just might not wear a costume to the party. This looks so stupid."
"May I be the judge of that?"
You hear him sigh and he moves his foot away from the door. As you open it you see him fully dressed up like Rick O'Connell from The Mummy and you gasp. He's wearing the knee-high boots, the gun holsters and even the dark blue scarf.
"It's ridiculous, I know," he pouts. Clearly he hasn't seen you biting your lip or noticed the change in your breathing. "Maybe I should get rid of the boots and say I'm--"
"Don't you dare, Mr. O'Connell," you admonish. He looks up and sees how dark your eyes are. "You look so damn good."
"Really?"
"We might not make it to the party."
"Oh really?" He's smiling now.
"Tell me I'm your librarian and I'll jump you right now."
Dark:
You know you shouldn't. He's asked you not to and it is his place. He's been your friend for years. You can't break his trust. Not for the sake of your curiosity.
But that door still calls to you.
From the way the apartment is structured you're pretty sure it's a closet so, really, what could be in there? At the same time, what could be in there that Curtis wouldn't want you to see? Is he secretly a cross dresser who's not ready to come out? Is he hiding a body in there? He does keep pretty tidy; maybe it's a junk closet that he's embarrassed about. And why does it always smell so nice? It's like he lit a scented candle in there that was your favorite scent.
What the hell is behind that door?
You've been staying at Curtis's place for a week now after your jackass ex kicked you out. He didn't even really give a reason. Just told you, "it's over. Get out." You were very grateful to Curtis for helping you move out, letting you stay at his place. Really, you can't break his trust by opening the one door he asked you not to. Right?
"Fuck it," you mumble to yourself. Just a quick peek and then you never have to think about it again.
Making sure Curtis isn't around you open the door just a crack but the lack of light doesn't give you much. You end up fully opening up the door and letting out a gasp.
The best way you can think to describe it would be a shrine to you. Photos of you that you don't know how or when he took. Pictures of you sleeping. Photos of you with your ex crossed out. A clip of your hair. A pair of your panties that went missing some time ago.
"I asked you not to open that," you hear him growl behind you. "But, I suppose that'll make this next part easier." He grabs you and pulls you into his arms. "I'm gonna worship you like the goddess you are to me. And you will love me like you should've been doing all these years."
A bouquet for you! Featuring: Curtis Everett; Grumpy/Sunshine; Bookstore; Fluff. I hope you like it!

"Ok, Curtis, divide and conquer!" Curtis rolls his eyes at your enthusiasm. "Don't give me that," you gently scold. "We've got gifts to get and a limited time to get them! You go ahead and get the romance books on the list, I'm gonna get go and get the kids books!"
"Please let me trade," he grumbles. "Ladies in the romance section always give me looks."
"Nope, because I'm also hoping to find some childhood favorites to add to our library." You smile and run off before he can argue some more.
You lose track of time as you look for the exact Bluey book your nephew asked for. No matter how hard you tried you kept getting distracted by the books you used to read at that age.
You're kneeling down to look for more of the books on your list when you hear someone behind you, "well aren't you just a peach."
You roll your eyes and try to ignore him.
"What's a pretty girl like you doing in this section? Got some kids at home?"
You pretend to read the book you've selected but this guy just can't take a hint.
"Now listen here," he starts getting louder. "I'm trying to talk to you. The least you can do is acknowledge--"
The man gets cut off and you smile to yourself, guessing the reason for the sudden quiet.
"She's not interested," Curtis's voice is gruff.
"And what makes you think she's interested in you?"
That's your cue to stand up, "hi, Sweetie!" You kiss his cheek, his glare never leaving the jackass. "Did you get all the books on the list?"
"Yes."
"Then let's get out of here, Babe."
"Right behind you, Angel."
You go to the checkout but Curtis keeps an eye on the guy. You giggle but thank him with a kiss, making him drop his glare so he can give you one of those love filled looks that makes you melt.
"Thanks for keeping me safe."
"Forever and a day."
This was PERFECT LOVE LOVE LOVE. Doberman boyfriend Curtis for the win 😍😍😍😍
I can’t stop thinking about this giant man in the romance section absolutely towering over the shelves with Icebreaker or something in his huge hand (I mean who even reads that filth?)
Everyone pretty please go check out @thezombieprostitute and their amazing writing and congrats again 🎉🎉
