I was watching the Grammys' celebration of 50-years passing since the August 11, 1973 rec room party at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, New York, USA. Rakim's performance was good, latinos were sidelined again, Afrika Bambaataa has been given the Jimmy Saville treatment and erased. It's funny I also started watching the BBC doc Fight the Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World, and what they've done in a typical British establishment manner is to make him seen and not heard. So there's clips of Bambaataa mostly looking around, presumably for the perfect beat (that was until the allegations, now we know what he was looking for) but there's no mention of him or the defining role he played in hip-hop as we know it

So the Grammys, they don't receive much attention in the UK, but the hip hop showcase looked like it could have been interesting, Chuck D and Flavor Flav were good! A global phenomenon but was as if hip hop doesn't exist outside the USA, like having a celebration of metal but only including bands from Birmingham or the UK.

Missy Elliot performs Lose Control which is built around a sample from Body Work by Hot Streak. The record was a big hit in the UK getting to 19 on the singles chart, the following year an edited version is put on the Breakin' soundtrack. Fred Zarr's synthesiser on this is class

Hot Streak were a reduced version of another band called Pure Energy which were the Hudson brothers and Lisa Stevens, with the addition of Fred Zarr (A-T-2 409, A-T-2 315, A-T-2 303, A-T-2 112), Bashiri Johnson (see A-T-2 409 and 315), Derrick DuPree who's voice it is, and John "Jellybean" Benitez

Lisa Stevens and Curtis Hudson would write Madonna's breakthrough record Holiday and Jellybean would produce it

One of Pure Energy's best known records would also come out in 1983
