How to sew a blind hem!
Hey guys :) So this is a blind hem tutorial and hopefully I can help some of you fabulous sunflowers be able to blind hem some of your kickass cosplays XD
Step One:
You need to swap your normal sewing foot to a blind hem one... It should look something along the lines of this:
Step two:
Once you've done that you need to fold over the edge of your fabric twice, Then you need to pin. It's good if you pin in the same direction shown in the photos because it makes it easier to sew later on:
Step three:
(This one is hard to put into words)
Basically you need to flip and fold the fabric so it looks like below, If you can see in the photo I've basically folded the hem to the outside of the dress but left a little peekaboo on the side to sew:
Step 4:
Line the fabric up with the little blunt blade on the sewing machine foot
Step 5:
Change your stitch to something that looks like 12:
Step 6:
Stitch along so that the straight stitch part is going on the hem peekaboo fold (I'm pretty sure there is a proper name for this but idk what it is) and the single zig zag is catching a little bit of the larger side:
Step 7:
And thats it! now of course you can see it more obviously because I used white cotton but if you used black you can barely see the little dots and it needs a good press. This hem is useful for dresses that you dont want a huge stitch running across or if you just want to hem a school or casual dress :) Hope this helped some of you guys, Let me know if you want more of these type of posts
Elsa is making progress! A few imperfections due to time restrictions of my textiles class but I think I've done well for 9 weeks of classes. Still need to add zip in the back of the skirt section (hence my huge hip), hem the skirt and finish sequining. Feel free to ask me questions I'll try my best to answer :)
Started Halloween 'Sally' for this year! Have decided to cheat a little bit and use an old dress I bought in a thrift shop as a base instead of making a dress from scratch, purely out of cost and convenience :)
