Custom bound Aquaman comics

Been very busy with work lately but got some custom bound comics and photos taken

Aquaman vol 4 contains the whole Aquaman 1991 series. Aquaman vol 6 contains Aquaman (2003)) 1-14 - everything before my sub diego TPB kicks in except EVIDENTLY the TPB form of this contains secret origins 2003 and I didn't buy that b/c I Just found this run in a used comic store for cheap so now its missing an issue ;_;

anyway since i know i want to collect a lot of aquaman comics (every single solo title), and I am going to bind what i find cheaper as floppies/what does not exist as TPBs, I want to have a uniform aesthetic for my custom bound aquaman comics so they look fancy on the shelf. That means I designed the base cover first and then just switch out the title and some other minor details. But the spines will all look like that and they'll all have the fish schales.

Big Bookbinding Progress dump

did some bookbinding, haven't been much on tumblr so I didn't post them as they were made...

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #190-203 (excluding 200), the most recent Zatanna mini, who's who in the legion of super-heroes.

Decisions:

This is the second Zatanna mini I bound (first was Bring Down the House), and I re-used the "ZATANNA" on the front side and then going backwards on the back side (but didn't take a picture of the backside). I just vectorized the art for the cover of the TPB for the image of zatanna.

The Legends of the Dark Knight used some paper I got on sale, and Who's Who in the Legion of Superheroes used some of the red and white stuff I was using for Infinity Inc that I bought too much of.

The Great Darkness: Custom Hardback

the other legion of superhero comics have faux leather white colors, but this one has black because… the great darkness.

it collects 275- 295 and annual 1. i wanted to get 275 in the previous volume but didn't have it at the time

the back cover image is from magic wars, but it looked badass enough, and white witch is important, so i added it. i

think this is the best i've gotten my rounding and backing so far.

Zatanna: Bring Down the House custom hardback

I did a poll (link) but I could already tell that the result that was winning was not going to work because it turns out I made the cover (pre decoration, just the book boards and cardstock) too loose and I needed the padding the thicker faux leather offered around the spine.

Turns out the advertised midnight blue is not as dark as I thought ti would be but it works :P

Blue Beetle Custom bound book

sewed together my blue beetle 2023 1-11... since we won't be getting anymore ;_; might as well collect them pretty.

I used the faux leather stuff, which gives everything automatic fancy points :P its next to boy wonder on the shelf, as well as the hand-bound blue beetle día de graduación in Spanish, which I did a lot earlier into my hobby.

I also included the shirt :P

Legion of Super-Heroes custom bound comic

Bound together some of my 50 cent comics... I got a large portion of these all at once. It collects Legion of Super-Heroes #296-313 and Tales of the Legion of the Super-Heroes #314-316, as well as Legion of Super-Heroes annuals 2 and 3.

the last two pics show the way I solved not being able to sew in issue 300 with the others (since it had a glued spine, rather than being the usual comic where long papers are folded in half and then stapled together. The usual comics make up my signatures when bookbinding). I just created a pocket for it with the last signature, the green thick endpaper, and then it can just chill in storage.

The logos around the front cover are mostly from issue #311, where they published everyone's logo in the back with the letter columns. Some got changed, because some logos were desperately unimaginative. Like Duo Damsel's is just two "female" signs (or whatever you call those things). I changed hers so at least it looks like there are two Ds in there. Invisible Kid's was also a couple lines indicating something disappearing, but I just left a blank space b/c obviously his logo should just be invisible.

I did *not* wait for great lighting for this, but oh well.

Playing around with Photoshop, trying to get a cover design hammered out for the custom-bound Black Orchid omnibus I’m working on.

I love my purple plant girlfriend.

Still on the DC event kick (we'll post some non-DC stuff next, don't worry!), we received an order this past week to make a two volume Infinite Crisis set out of a bunch of trade paperbacks.

But this wasn't just a case of removing some covers and stacking the trades to bind them as-is. With our handy dandy exacto knife, a blow dryer, and some patience, we organized the content from the trades into the reading order the customer requested. This also involved scanning and reprinting some pages to avoid duplicate pages, as well as printing out covers for issues that the original trades did not include covers for.

So here are some process pictures from that! We have the stack of trades before we got to work, some pictures of the final stacks ready for binding, and a picture of the leftover material (trade covers, issues that got duplicated, etc)

So if you've ever had a bunch of trades and wished they were hardcovers, don't feel left out - you can bind those too!
