Detroit Evolution Homecoming - Day 5 Gavin Reed
So this is fun because I actually have made 3 variations of a Gavin Reed funko pop. The one I made myself (left), the one I made for Chris (middle) and the one I made for Michelle (right).
Obviously the ones I made for myself and Chis are the most similar as they are both based on DE Gavin.
The key differences are mainly, the shirt colour, my one is red because in my head it's the nipper zippers shirt, which made me laugh every time they talked about it so it had to be done, where as I wanted the one I gave to Chris to more closely resemble how Gavin looks in the first scene at the precinct when Nines gives Gavin the coffee mug.
The second main difference is the cigarette vs mug and like I mentioned in my Lazzo post I wanted the pop figures I was giving away to be more stable than the ones I made for myself and the cigarette was not that (I have lost count of the amount of times I've had to reglue that thing over the years) besides challenging myself to paint that teeny tiny shark mug was so much fun and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
Michelle's funko pop was based off of the Reed900 photoshoot she and Austin did.
I really didn't want to have to sculpt hair for any of these, not just because I hate sculpting hair but I also didn't want to add the extra weight but after many hours scouring the Internet I realised I would have too. I ended up getting one with shorter hair that I added to and luckily it didn't throw off her center of gravity too much and she still managed to stand. And over all I loved how it turned out.
I love all 3 of these designs and they were all so much fun to make.
I did however forget to paint Gavin's nose scar on all 3 of these funko pops until it was time to varnish them, and then I would have to put off varnishing them for several hours so the paint could properly dry again. Don't know why I had such a blind spot to it but thought it was pretty funny that it happened on three separate occasions.
