Detroit: Evolution Blu-Ray Edition coming in clutch.

Our discord server frequently has double-feature viewing parties of Detroit: Evolution and Reawakening (Bring Your Own Popcorn, of course), and with @octopunkmedia's release of the Blu-Ray edition on their website https://octopunx.tv, we decided to rewatch our favorite gay bois on the big screen.

To those DBH fans who have somehow NOT seen these wonderful works of cinema, DO IT. DO IT NOW!! Many people in the fandom have expressed how greatly the Chris and Tina in their fan-works has been influenced by the performances of Michael Smallwood and Carla Kim, respectively. And of course Christopher Trindade as Gavin and Maximilian Koger as Nines is a superb example of onscreen chemistry and witty Reed900 banter. (And gayness. Don't forget the gayness.) Jillian Geurts as Ada is a classy femme-fatale, and JJ Schaeffer's Lazzo kills us every single time in that neon boa: "Like robot arms, not gun arms." The entire cast and crew of Detroit: Evolution and Detroit: Reawakening created this labor of love; made by fans, for fans.

To those of you who have seen D:E before, the Blu-Ray edition is worth an immediate watch. From the audible hits and whirring servos in the reworked fight scene to the fabulous new music track in the ending credits (THAT FIRST BASS DROP, WHAT), our enjoyment of our favorite lines and scenes was only enhanced by the updates. We still watched the NOIR version of the fight scene as a part of our regular experience (it's SOOOO on point); if you haven't seen the NOIR version we suggest you check that out, too. To conclude. Detroit: Evolution and Detroit: Reawakening are STILL a must-see for any DBH fan, yes "even" in 2025. This fandom ain't dead; it's thriving.

Celebrate Detroit Evolution's Five Year Anniversary!

It's been almost five years since we released our Reed900 fan film Detroit Evolution, so we're celebrating with a fandom and art festival all April long.

Simply post something related to the daily prompt starting April 1st. This can be art, cosplay, fanfic, essays, meta, memes, video, music - anything you'd like! Also it doesn't have to be new. Reposts and archival work is totally fine. This is about nostalgia, after all~

I don't really monitor Facebook, Tiktok, AO3 or Youtube, and I'm not on Threads at all, but if it's on Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, or BlueSky, I'll be tracking the #DEHomecoming tag. And of course, there's our Octopunx community site. If there's enough participation and if I have time, I might do a showcase stream in May looking back on everyone's stuff!

We have a prompt for every day, but filling out something for every day is totally optional. Take or leave whatever you'd like.

Detroit Evolution Homecoming - Day 21 Nines

I was really happy with my initial design for my Nines funko pop (left). And had originally thought I would keep the design for the one I gave Maximilian very similar. 

But to be completely honest, the main reason for the redesign was because while I was looking at various funko pops on ebay to use as the base I came across one with a tiny cat and got way too excited and couldn't think of anything else until I relented and decided to do Nines playing with the kitten from Detroit Reawakening instead of more closely sticking with the DE theme. I think it came out really cute and I really love the kitten but kind of wish there was some more contrast between Nines and the Kitten.

I really am proud of both these figures and love them both so much.

detroit evolution is five years old!!!! i almost missed it!!!!!

the reason for my first online friendship. for feeling secure in my identity. for being inspired in my creativity. for knowing what good community feels like, even when you’ve never seen the faces of the people that make you smile.

i wrote fics, i designed cross-stitches, i still have the love well don’t kill sticker on my switch.

thank you @octopunkmedia for making this wonderful film, and for curating such a caring fanbase. it’s been years since i interacted with octopunk really, but it is something i hold dearly in my heart.

and thank you @a-stranger-face. for being silly with me, for drawing art of my unfinished fic, for being my forever hypeman. for reaching out two years after we somehow lost contact. for our daily life updates. love you mwah!!

happy 5 year anniversary detroit evolution 💙

the creators and the fandom being directly intertwined is not something that's the case for probably 99.9% of pieces of media out there. octopunk media being right there with us, the fans, sharing fanart, gifs, fanfics, streaming and being excited about the film as much as the fans were made detroit evolution greater than the sum of its parts. something that was a love letter to fandom culture became a direct mirror of fandom culture itself when the fanworks branched out into completely new stories with some of the headcanons that the fandom came up with even making it into the sequel. there's many things i wanna thank this film for, the first one is giving positive associations to 2020. the weekly saturday livestreams in the months after the film came out and the community making fanart and fics and cosplays. de artfest! i owe this film for spurring me to write and actually finish more than i had in a long time. and it was one of the most surreal experiences of my life when my cosplay made it onto the stream and the creators were talking about it like it was so cool. no you're so cool! you made a whole film that made me lose my mind for a year and longer! it was a feedback loop of creativity of creators and fans inspiring each other over and over again. that's my favourite thing about fandom culture. there's no such thing as something made in isolation. it inspires someone else, who makes something, which inspires someone else, and it keeps going. thats what its all about!! theres no way i can describe why this film is in my top films in a simple way. how do i describe that its because the people who made it were able to share their love for their own film with the rest of the world, which built a whole community, which spurred more stories to be put into the world. and how do i describe detroot evoot lol. anyway, thank you detroit evolution. love well, dont kill 💙
