A 2016 Business

Trying to start a business in 2016. It’s so easy, but so hard at the same time. The internet makes everything so easy. Creating content or rounding up manufacturers is as easy as a couple clicks. Automated retweeting or manually sharing viral content can get some exposure and maybe even some “expert” points. Its never been easier or more complicated. Google, SEO, traffic, traction, humanitarian, instagram, twitter. Starting a business is now a way to earn a great education while making money. Instead of earning a decent education and gaining debt.

Starting a business is so easy that everyone is trying to do it. Ok not everyone but smart people are making passive income businesses or passion businesses. And students are starting to learn that a student campus is a great place to sell stuff to people.

I have been trying to do it for four years. It only took five to complete the written set of classes I had to take while in school. Running a business has no set of classes someone makes you take. You have to have the confidence and the work ethic to make it work. The unknown is what has kept me from putting 100% into a new business venture. To start a business you can’t be afraid of what you’ll lose. Just look forward to what you can gain. I am excited to put money and effort into making this website an entity that will hold a place in the online and physical gear space.

After going to SIA this year, I see the steps I need to take. There will be challenges learning all the social media and search engine tricks, getting other companies to play nice. Life is having challenges and overcoming them. A life without challenges is a life not being lived. So in essences getting this business up and running and documenting the process is a challenge to myself. Can I make the most of my time at home and at work to make a difference selling outdoor gear and hopefully something even larger.

Snowsay will bring the stories of companies that have already trudged this path of starting a company. We will talk about snow, entrepreneurship, everything mountain, and health and wellness. I’d probably be able to do a lot more work on this website if I didn’t have to sleep and eat. We’ll focus on companies that are focused on making each person perform at a high level for a long time through physical and mental preparedness.

As I hope this challenges teaches me many things I hope to share it with everyone else with the idea that one day it will be the catalyst for someone else to challenge themselves and make life a great adventure.

SIA 16

After years of wanting to go to SIA I finally made it there. I made it there with a buddy, family and snow. It was pretty much a vacation of entrepreneurs and snowboarders. All the companies were awesome to talk to. You can see the passion in their product and on their faces. Even the companies with silly products are confident that they solved the biggest problem that ever faced mountain recreation. 

New tech, old tech, handmade, China made. Everything was at this place. We found some great people making great things. A lot of them are from the Rocky Mountains. We want to learn more about these companies and want others to learn about them. 

Look for featured companies, their founders, and thier products in the future.

Custom Skis by Praxis Skis

A small group of skiers in Tahoe run a custom ski crafting business named Praxis Skis. I've been riding Praxis skis for 8 or 9 years now. I got my first pair of camo reverse camber Powder Skis from Keith one evening in Squaw Valley. I still have that pair of skis.

The build and the feel of a custom pair of skis under your feet is unique. I've put tons of hours and days on those Powder Boards. Taken some hard landings and edge abuse in many different boney lines, but they still hold up. Those Camo Powder Boards are kind of a relic now with the huge line of custom skis Praxis skis is putting on the market, but they are still the most bomber set of boards I own.

Last year I added the beautifully painted Bucks Powder Slarver or BPS after talking to Keith about the new innovation. They are a trip with their progressive design. In deep snow, they are the most fun ski I've ridden. The big shovel clears the way and the girth underfoot making stomping cliffhuckstables easy. Once you hit the cat track, they hold a crazy edge. Plus, the graphic is really one of my favorites.

Best Snow Skis For Your Body Type

Choosing the right snow skis for first-time skiers can be intimidating, but with the right guidance and assistance, purchasing one can be easily pulled through. It is very important to note that there are different snow skis for different type of skiers. Taller and heavier skiers may require different ski as with lighter and shorter ones.

Back in the old days, skis can be so large making it difficult to get you the right balance. But nowadays, snow skis are made to fit the person who is going to use them, smaller skis are known to be faster and more stable.

Snow Skis for Different Ages and Gender. If you are a man, then pick snow skis that are made for your gender. This is the basic consideration to think about when buying the skis.

Men and women have different ski types to use because of the difference in body built. Women's skis are built lighter and flexible to compensate its body weight, the same with children who need to get equipment that matches their own height and weight.

The height and weight of the skier is the determining factor in getting the right and proper ski length, they need to be proportionate so that everything is well distributed.

The type of snow skis also differ depending on what level the skier is, and it is not practical to get one that is beyond or below the skill level you are currently in. Try to stay away with the thought that you can buy a ski that is beyond your level thinking that you might improve later on.

For beginners, for instance, the ski needs to be at least shorter by an inch or two than the body. Intermediate skiers need a ski that is closer to their height, while those advanced skiers must choose a ski with an added length, from five to ten centimeters.

Longer skis move faster so that if you need speed, go for the longer one to help you float during skiing. Here is a ski sizing chart guide that will help you find the  right skis your your body type and skiing style:

- Skis used for recreation only should be just tall enough to hit the skier's chin or eyes or in between.

- Mountain skis should stand between the nose and forehead.

- Free ride skis should be eye level or a little taller.

- Freestyle skis must be nose level.

- Backcountry skis are the widest and the biggest and would depend on the skiing level.

If you want to learn to snow ski quickly, you must first learn to walk - with the snow skis on! Best bet is to take a ski lesson so you can learn what is called "Stepping" from a professional ski instructor. There's fundamentals you'll learn in the coursework of your first day of ski instruction - stopping & turning.
