DIY: Flutter Pony Wings
Are your flutter ponies missing their wings? You don’t mind if they don’t look like the originals? Here comes a craft for you:
You’ll need:
A plastic bottle (one or more depending on how many tries you’ll need)
Scissors (one big and one small is preferable)
A tealight
Glitter nail polish
A flutter pony (of course)
First you cut out two ovals from the plastic bottle. Just a little bit bigger than how you want the wings.
Then you light the tealight and hold one of the plastic pieces over the flame (not to close, that will burn the plastic). Move the plastic as it starts to bend. Do the same with the other. This might take a lot of trial and error and if you don’t like the result you can cut out more ovals from the bottle and start over (this is why you might need more than one bottle).
If you find it too hard to shape them you can also look for bottles that have interesting patterns and just cut out a shape that you want and skip the whole procedure with the tealight.
When you finally have two wings that are the way you want them to be you then cut out little tabs so that they can be attached to the wing holders. Cut them little by little so that you don’t cut off to much. There is no need to glue them on if the tabs are exactly the right size.
When they fit just right it’s time to paint them with nail polish. I paint the side that is going to be under.
Let them dry and then your flutter pony have new wings! I ended up using two nail polishes, one with iridescent flakes and one with purple stars.
I hope you liked this little craft! This is the first time I make a DIY/tutorial. Please let me know if you liked it! Nevertheless Forget-Me-Not loved her new glittery and starry wings at least.
I got a lot of inspiration on how to make new wings from here.
Custom LED ISIS Wings: Free the Spirit, $199, Buy them Here
Peach blossom has gotten a new pair of wings made out of plastic bottle and nail polish. When I saw this nail polish I immediately thought of the 80's and My Little Pony. If you want to know how i made them go to this post [X].
Forget-Me-Not and Peach Blossom in custom made wings. Here's the tutorial that gave me the idea [x].
But please don't glue the wings onto the pony! If you cut the tabs just right the wings stay on anyway and then you can switch wings whenever you like.
For these wings I used a MER bottle that has a leaf pattern. That drink is however only sold in sweden. But wherever you live look for bottles with an interesting pattern. It looks so much better with that,
Hello there! I am planning to cosplay Tabris xx at next year's Otakon. I can handle everything but the wings... I have seen some wings you've done and I am quite impressed. Unfortunately, this would be a big piece (4 pairs of angelic wings). If you are willing to take the project, could you give me a quote or idea of how much they'd be. It's, of course, understandable if you turn me down.
Hi! We’ve taken a look at the costume, and boy does it look cool! We’d love to help you with your wings :) However, they will be very expensive. We’re willing to discuss prices, but this would be an incredibly labor-intensive project, even if the materials themselves were cheap!
Regardless of the method used to make them, we expect to spend minimally 35-50 hours to make them; by our typical pay scale, we would charge about $250-$450 for that amount of time.
If you wanted the wings made out of real feathers, they would take at least 3-4 pounds of feathers, which at bulk pricing would be $100-$150.
Therefore, at the most conservative bare minimum, you’d be looking at about $400 for four sets of custom feathered wings, and possibly up to $600. What kind of budget did you have in mind?
