The missing cut-scene from 2 Old 2 Guard:
Booker wakes with a start and sits up, in a cold sweat.
“Damn,” he muses, “I really am fucked up, aren’t I? I wanted a redemption arc but I just took a short cut and totally indulged my martyrdom complex. Also, I should probably examine why I dreamed up another hottie archivist, not to mention my desire to get between Joe and Nicky.”
He realizes that he didn’t have a drop to drink the whole dream. Must be a sign. Time for an actual Booker Redemption Arc. Step one: Get sober.
Why was Nile barely in the dream? He only knew her for a few days, and he was kind of preoccupied at the time.
Meanwhile:
Nile is on a boat. As are Joe and Nicky. Nicky looks quite charming with his sailor cap at a jaunty angle, and Joe is totally rocking his fisherman’s cap. Nile’s hair is just as gorgeous as it was in the film Booker’s dream.
Because she did get a day off. A few days off, actually, to secretly visit her family in Chicago. She introduced Andy to her mom and brother, explained her new situation, set up burner phones and secure messages and in-person meet-ups at irregular intervals. And then she got her hair done.
Anyway, she’s on a boat, with Joe and Nicky, and they are using SONAR to sweep the ocean for Quỳnh. Andy is hanging out with the Freemans because there is legitimate worry about Quỳnh’s reaction when she finally gets out, and Andy couldn’t heal from the results. Jordan (Nile’s brother) is telling Andy every embarrassing thing he can remember about his baby sister, and only embellishing a little bit. He also teaches her how to use whatsapp, because he already taught his grandma to use it so he’s used to old folks and technology, and this way Andy doesn’t have to rely on her least reliable friend for anything involving IT.
When they finally pull her out, Quỳnh spends a few minutes just breathing. She asks Nile “Did she ever talk about me?” and Nile says “She never stopped.” Joe and Nicky confirm that they spent centuries searching for her, and only stopped because someone implied that he’d stopped dreaming of her, and they thought they were too late. They offer to take her to the place they’d held her funeral, but Quỳnh finds it all a bit macabre and she’s had enough of death for a while, thank you very much.
