Hot on the heels of my first book chapter being published I'm excited to announce that my chapter for THE RETRO-FUTURISM OF CUTENESS (Punctum Books), edited by Jen Boyle and Wan-Chuan Kao, is also now available as of today! This volume features my essay on a topic which is rather different then what I usually blog about here and will provide readers with a slightly expanded insight into my academic interests and endeavors. The essay in question here is "All The Pretty Little Ponies: Bronies, Desire, and Cuteness" which is the culmination of nearly five years of ethnographic data collection and research into the pop-culture phenomena that is Bronies; adult male fan of the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. In this essay I trace the origins and chart the evolution of the Brony phenomena, its reception by the media and scholars and ask how we might best understand this seemingly unique fandom. It is with little ego that I promise readers that this essay marks the most through and uncompromising examination of Bronies available in print anywhere to date. If you've been baffled by Bronies this is the book for you. If you are a Brony and want a critical look at your community that is neither patronizing or vilifying this is it. This work has been some of the most rewarding of my entire academic career and I am happy to finally see it in print.
This title is available in paperback from Amazon and in both paperback and as an e-book directly from the publisher here.
