At a pastor’s conference, we all began talking about a pathetic case the week before when a man came to ask for enough money to go to Charleston to pick up his dead child, the third to die from a strange disease.
Hearing this, a minister who knew the man begging said, “He did have a child to die four years ago, but he has used that same tear-jerking story to scam people for several years.” He was picked up by the police and made to apologize, but of course, could not repay what he had filched.
Since several of the last fellowships I have served as pastor had no office open five days a week, we referred many to Deep Well where we would send a portion of our offering simply to be a clearing house.
