Between Santa Maria on the California coast, and Maricopa at the edge of the San Joaquin Valley, there is the Cuyama Valley, which is largely uninhabited except for a few ranches and farms. The hills here look like sand dunes! In fact, I passed a set of hills which are completely cut away on one side.
