7. Song that reminds you of something you regret

Battle Cries reminds me of a relationship that I stayed in for far longer than I should have. We were convinced that we were Meant to Be™️ (some fictions we took to mean fate), so I threw myself into trying to be what he needed even while my own needs were unmet. I wish I'd had more self-respect back then to have walked away sooner.

9. Song that touches upon your fears

So my dad was diagnosed with cancer last month, and I have come to the point where I have to hurriedly nope out of Welly Boots. Just nope, nope, no thank you, Mr. Joey Batey and Ms. Madeleine Hyland, I'm gonna keep my distance from this song for a while until my dad beats his cancer (he has to) and I'm no longer terrified that I will be living those song lyrics for real soon. Cross your fingers for us, because I really do love this song, I just don't want to be in it, ya know?

“They tested the first atomic bomb here,” Steve says, his stomach turning at the thought.

Bucky looks at him. “Did they.”

Steve nods. “First one here, and then out in the ocean. Then Japan. Killed millions.”

“I know,” Bucky says, a little sharply. “I know what they did, Steve.”

“I didn’t.” And it’s not Bucky he’s angry with, it isn’t, but there’s no one else to listen to him, and he hasn’t ever talked about it with anyone, and it sits in his gut, as deadly and sick as the explosions he’s thinking of. “—They tried to keep it from me at first, or they thought I knew, but whatever it was, I read it in a book I picked up somewhere. All alone in that shit apartment, in the dark. And I had to ask why.”

Bucky pulls over on the side of the road and turns off the truck. He opens his door and jumps out, slamming it behind him with a hollow thunk. He crosses the front, and yanks open Steve’s door, tapping on Steve’s knee to get him to turn sideways. And there, caged between Steve’s knees, Bucky looks up at him and simply says, “Tell me.”

Hey! I’d like to submit my four short stevebucky (sad) fics :) 

Nightmare: “The room is cold, but there’s no blood anymore. Only darkness and tangled sheets and fear. The same fear that creeps into him every night, before he opens his eyes and realizes that it was a nightmare.” Basically, Bucky has awful nightmares but Steve is there for him. (Pretty angsty, hurt/comfort).

Oh so blue: Hydra happens to find someone who looks uncannily like a certain Steve Rogers, and it’s the perfect chance to test how much of Bucky Barnes remains in the Winter Soldier. (more angst)

Get some rest, Cap:  “Get some rest, they said, with eyes full of a pity he dreads, because he has been on the field for days, and he’ll have to go back soon, he knows. Get some rest, because no matter how hard he tried to conceal it, he’s certain they could see how utterly broken he is.” The first night Steve sleeps without Bucky at his side after the train. Part 1 of a mini-series called Goodbye my lover. (even more angst, lots of crying - you can probably tell)

Solstice: “Winter solstice: the day with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year" In which Hydra gives Bucky some very bad news. Part 2 of Goodbye my lover.
