A Ramble about @undertalecookingwithkindness's Sunny (Sorry for the ping, directing to the page!!!)

Content Warnings: Spoilers for Cooking with Kindness, Discussion of Mental Health, and Anxiety. (Moral Anxieties specifically)

So...Cooking with Kindness! A prequel soul fangame following the soul of Kindness!

It's genuinely really good but if you're reading this I assume you already know that.

I wanna open with this incase it's ever explicit: I do not have OCD or any form of it. I DO have a generalized anxiety disorder with a heavy lean into moral anxiety.

That being said...

FUCK Sunny hit me like a god damn truck.

Sunny's whole deal, seemingly, is that they act kind not because they're genuinely nice (even if they seem themself as so), but because they're focused on being a good person.

Early on in the game, they showcase...not having good mental health. AS SOON as Toriel leaves, they decide it's time to leave her home...and is suddenly super upset.

And through the game, this only gets more and more clear, as we learn Sunny's beliefs through the cutscenes"

* Good people give what they can.

* Good people help those in need.

* Good people would do most anything for others.

Only for this to get more intense:

* Good people are never selfish.

* Good people put others first.

* Good people would do anything for others.

And then:

* Bad people take from others.

* Bad people hurt others.

* Bad people only think of themselves.

...

And then we get to the part that genuinely hits me every time I see it:

"Are you a good person, Sunny?"

"Are you a bad person, Sunny?"

This. Fucking. HURT. I myself struggle with intense moral anxiety, I constantly worry about the slightest flaw suddenly making me the worst person ever, I worry about being the most moral I can be or else I fear people will HATE me.

I worry about the things I say, the things I do, the things I believe in because I'm worried about being wrong, morally. I feel the need to be morally perfect, hell, morally superior to others, because otherwise I fear I'm not good enough and deserve hatred.

...This is why I love Sunny so much. They're very similar to me. Based upon the read I had, they worry about being seen as a good person due to the beliefs instilled into them by the people around them, which caused them to focus on being a "good person" no matter if their goodness was fully genuine.

And the fact I felt the entire need to write an entire god damn post about it shows that the writers KNOW what the fuck they're doing and hints to me that I don't have to worry about them messing this up.
