Synopsis: Three years ago, Tanner Scott’s family relocated from California to Utah, a move that nudged the bisexual teen temporarily back into the closet. Now, with one semester of high school to go, and no obstacles between him and out-of-state college freedom, Tanner plans to coast through his remaining classes and clear out of Utah.
But when his best friend Autumn dares him to take Provo High’s prestigious Seminar—where honor roll students diligently toil to draft a book in a semester—Tanner can’t resist going against his better judgment and having a go, if only to prove to Autumn how silly the whole thing is. Writing a book in four months sounds simple. Four months is an eternity.
It turns out, Tanner is only partly right: four months is a long time. After all, it takes only one second for him to notice Sebastian Brother, the Mormon prodigy who sold his own Seminar novel the year before and who now mentors the class. And it takes less than a month for Tanner to fall completely in love with him.
Review:
Knock knock. Are you alive, girl? Nope. This book kicked my feels in the balls. Tanner is a 18 year old boy, who happens to be bisexual, in Provo, Utah. You know who live in this town. Mormons. I didn't expect what I got from this book. I honestly had a theory that was mostly correct but boy did it hurt being right. So, I don't want to spoil this for anyone who really is interested. So I will start with my theory then tell you what actually happens. So, please do not read my theory or the review before finishing the book. Now my theory was that Tanner was going to fall for a Mormon boy (Sebastian). Mormon boy would, you know, question his faith and experiment. They would have a good time falling in love but would end up separating because of the faith and Tanner would find someone else. Then Sebastian would realize that God loves him no matter what and find Tanner but would be too late. I was almost right and it cost this book half a star. So, here is what happens: Tanner does fall for Sebastian and they do enjoy each other (hehe) and Sebastian does pull away because of the faith and his family opinions. In the most dickest move I have ever seen. Through out the book Sebastian toes the line with Tanner's emotions (dude he had his heart on his sleeve) and it hurt me to read it. Because Tanner was genuinely and truly open with his emotions and Sebastian knowing that let Tanner get close and hurt him. Even though you could see this coming a mile away, it hurt so bad. So the only difference between my theory and the book? Tanner and Sebastian end up together with hardly any third party romantic interference. All in all it was an amazing book and I think every one should read it. Because it shows love and how an oppressive faith system can affect it. But in the end love is love and even though I did not want them together. I am glad they could be the persons they wanted to be.
