THE CYBERBATS: SPACE CASE, HOOLIGAN, AND SKYJACK

An awful little goon squad, these Decepticons are basically freelance grunts shared by Galvatron, Megatron, and Megastorm- but just as frequently the heirs can’t even find them, since they tend to move constantly and vanish without warning. Small but fast and vicious, these little bats aren’t exactly the most reliable mecha in the game, but they make up for it with enthusiasm and speed.

And INCREDIBLY wild coloration. They refused to give up their jet paintjobs when they became techno-organics.

They also raised Nightscream, so someone actually looked at these three goblins and went yeah, okay, I’ll let them raise a baby.

Though in their defense, they did a pretty good job of it and absolutely adore Nightscream, acting as older brothers/uncles and ensuring that she grew up safe, well-learned, and with the ability to kick some ass when need be.

I dont even get the npc thing. Like its supposed to be because swjs "repeat the same things over and over" and are a faceless mass with no personality, except we're also supposed to be special snowflakes with twenty genders and dyed hair or whatever? Like pick one and stick with it at least

My main takeaway from the crib of grindygorp was that at least two prominent and powerful wizard families were apparently on the titanic (or at least, a large ship that sank going from England to America) and they didn't use magic to stop it from sinking or to save all the passengers

It’s really fun to read the first Harry Potter book, which paints wizards as really fun, sweet, creative people and muggles as stuffy boors, and then think about how the rest of the series has slowly but inescapably turned it around to the point where almost every wizard is basically an asshole at best.

Honestly the idea of a character like newt caring about endangered magic animals/trying to get one back to its natural habitat despite the rest of wizard society not caring about animals that aren't directly useful to them was way more interesting to me than another evil racist wizard story

Another thing about DA:I is that it focuses a lot on exploring this big expansive world and going on all these quests in each area when...i don't think that was the appeal of the first two games? They also had side quests and places ro explore but it felt a lot more focused. This game just kinda drops you into these huge maps with tons of stuff to do and I got burned out almost immediately

Yeah the wide open world kinda hurts the pacing, as does the “wait seven hours to unlock a thing before you can progress the story” bit.

I also didn’t like the focus on crafting your own weapons and gear.  One of my favorite moments in Dragon Age 1 was when I assembled the Juggernaut Armor from an easily missed sidequest that involved robbing graves that are haunted by super powerful undead monsters.  That armor felt earned.  It felt important and beloved.  There was a story behind it, and it was more than “well I collected enough drakestone to satisfy the craft mechanic’s needs.”

I think one of the reasons it's difficult to get into DA:I is that there's no weight to the decisions. The game says there is but doesn't do a good job of following through, or the decisions they set up don't make any sense. Like why would it be difficult for me, as a player, to choose who stays in the fade when the options are either the main character of the last game or some random npc I just met?

I didn’t get that far, but yeah I would say I never really felt invested in what was happening despite other characters telling me it was REALLY important that I be, like, the new pope or whatever.  It wasn’t like the double whammy of the Blight and Teryn Loghain’s coup, which immediately felt like Problems I Had to Solve, or the myriad of problems in Kirkwall, which start out not so noticeable only to creep up on you more and more as you get invested in the friends you make around the city.

Yeah I did too at first but then I remembered that JKR’s Harry Potter-sploitation film came out this week and it all made sense.
