Ant cybertypes!!!
http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0172641
Heads up, world! We now have ant cybertypes, which is wonderful!
In their new study in PLoS ONE, Hita Garcia et al. describe two new species using micro CT imaging, and provide videos and data for download! Guys, you can 3D print types now!!!
Also, the new species are named Terataner nymeria and T. balrog! Aaaah! I can’t even! :D
Sadly, I am not one of the authors, but I will cite the hell out of this gem!
“Ommatoiulus avatar n. sp. male cybertype, unstained. Volume rendering of microCT image.“
Q&A: Race and Cybertype
What are the ways in which internet access is raced and classed? Give examples.
Nowadays, everything costs money. Nothing anymore is free. The internet is no exception to this. The internet is extremely classed because it's open to anyone...as long as they can pay for it. If you're poor and you can't afford internet...well, sucks for you.
Most people with smartphones have access to the internet, however you first have to be able to even afford a smartphone. The internet is geared towards the middle and upper class because they have the money to spare. People who don't have internet, but do have a computer can get internet access, but it always requires them to leave their house. They have to go to the local Starbucks or Panera in order to receive free wi-fi and most of those places don't allow you to use their internet if you're not a customer.
Studies actually show that White people receive the most welfare, so the internet isn't outright racist. HOWEVER, most people that use the internet tend to be middle or upper class White people. Basically, the internet is a wonderful tool and it can open people's eyes to a multitude of possibilities...if they can afford it.

Analysis Post: Race and Cybertype- Mis-Adventures of an Awkward Black Girl
I think watching the Mis-Adventures of an Awkward Black Girl might have been the easiest homework I’ve ever done simply because the mini episodes got addicting. I watched almost the entire first season. It’s an easy thing to do because I feel like I relate to her awkwardness. Everyone does. That’s the appeal to the show. Everyone’s had that awkward moment walking down the hallway with one other person and it’s pretty inevitable that someone SHOULD say something. This web series is the perfect example of race and cyberspace because it’s a show all about an African American woman who also just happens to be awkward. Would people find it as funny if it were a White girl? The twitter Awkward White Girl exemplifies that people probably would. The show is one big stereotype. If a Black woman shaves her head, she looks like a boy. It makes it seem as if it’s impossible for them to be pretty anymore. Black people like to go out to eat at the local fried chicken establishments, not for sushi (that’s a White people thing).
The Mis-Adventures of an Awkward Black Girl also proves to be an example of the disembodied voice because it grounds people in their identities as awkward individuals or African American individuals, but it also let’s them explore. If there’s a White, graceful person watching the show, it’s something new and fresh for them. However, if a Black person who has a full head of hair and is not awkward at all watches the show, it’s also something different for them. Mis-Adventures of an Awkward Black Girl is a prime example of using race as entertainment. Although I think people would still find the show funny if it were a White girl (MTV's Awkward is an example), it almost makes for better entertainment because she’s Black. Black people aren’t necessarily stereotyped to be awkward. It makes the show more interesting and unique.
The best part I think of Awkward Black Girl is the fact that it kind of defies what should be a cybertype. African Americans are stereotyped to speak with Ebonics or “ghetto.” J has a job, she dresses professionally, and I think it’d be pretty difficult to tell she’s Black by just hearing her narrative voice…unless she’s rapping about her breakup. The entire series is extremely clever. I think the characters know just how absurd they are, but they also know that it’s realistic. No one wants to see their ex when they’re out on a date with someone knew! IT’S AWKWARD! The best part about Awkward Black Girl is that she really just can’t do anything but laugh. It’s funny that her White date took her to a fried chicken restaurant, it’s funny she met her best friend because they’re both extremely awkward individuals. The entire series is funny because people like it because she’s Black and she’s awkward. If you can’t beat the cybertypes, join em and show them you can maneuver it in your favor.
