Researchers have described Mesalina bishnoi from Rajasthan, marking the first confirmed record of the genus Mesalina in India.
As a biology student and a Rajasthani, I find this discovery particularly fascinating. What makes it interesting is that this lizard was likely never truly "hidden" from the people living in its habitat. Yet it took careful observation, documentation, and scientific investigation for it to become part of our formal scientific knowledge.
It is a reminder that many things around us remain unnoticed, not because they are rare, but because few stop to ask questions about them. What appears ordinary today may become tomorrow's research subject in the hands of a curious mind.
