Rocky Myers : Cyborg X (2016)
to kick off Selfship Mabon, i collected all the new character designs i’ve done for my SIs this year! character design is my profession irl and it’s something i really enjoy, and over the course of this year i’ve found a lot of comfort and empowerment drawing myself as the person i’m striving to be, as well as enjoying the challenge of working in different styles! several of these SIs mark points where i’ve entered new fandoms that have quickly come to mean the world to me, and others are from fandoms that have been part of my life for a long time, but regardless i feel each one represents a step in my progress as an artist and towards my goal of self-love and self-appreciation.
and, of course, then proceeding to draw these SIs smooching their respective fictional others has been heaps of fun too :P

🌙!!!
give me a 🌙 for a headcanon! (thank you!)
idk if this counts as one single headcanon but i’ve been thinking about my Cyborg SI teamed with each of their teammates and how their combat strategies would look so here goes:
X and 009: Team Puppydog Eyes. almost always starts out on defense and trying to appeal to the enemies’ conscience. both are slow to anger but quick to take risks for the sake of their team. X and 008: expect high chaos and probably explosions with a chance sprinkling of mischief. efficiency with flair. 008 is usually pretty merciless towards his enemies but will allow X to intervene on the baddies’ behalf if they see fit. X and 007: really creative in tandem. together they come up with very unique strategies and often have a genuinely good time fighting together because of this. X and 006: Team Bring The Heat. usually not assigned as a pair since their powers of laser vision and fire breathing combined is downright excessive. can clear pretty much any physical barrier in seconds. X and 005: the healer+tank combo that gets shit done. mutually protective of each other and the rest of the team. often the pair stays on the defensive to provide cover for their teammates. on the offensive, they balance each other out, as X is the lighter/faster of the two and follows 005′s lead to temper their decision-making. X and 004: Team Blitz. explosive, efficient, effective. X respects 004 as a strategist and usually follows his cues. the two are usually on the same page in most regards, from assessments of most situations to strategies, both being slow to trust outsiders, though X is slightly friendlier in their approach. X and 003: my take on 003 includes her being a sniper, so these two are Sniper Bros. 003′s ability to impart coordinates and instructions to X, helping them use their laser vision more effectively and at much longer range. X and 002: though X does try their best to rein in 002′s impulsivity, this pair tends to hype each other up for better or worse, often making reckless decisions to protect each other and their other teammates. however, even on a bad day they work together with fantastic synchronization and effectiveness. best when given supervision, especially from 004. X and 001: 001 on the battlefield is already the ace up the 00s’ sleeve, and along with the rest of the team his presence spurs X to fight all the harder. like the others, they’re extremely protective of him and will prioritize him above other teammates if necessary. if he’s asleep and for whatever reason they’re his sole protector, the gloves are off and X will do literally anything to keep him safe.
Cyborg X (2016)
Film review #650
Director: Kevin King
SYNOPSIS: When a computer virus infects the weapons manufacturer X-Corp, it's drone weapons hunt down humans and reduce the world to ruin. Hiding out in the desert, a group of survivors happen to learn that X-Corp CEO Jack Kilmore has been kidnapped by the cyborgs that now roam the planet nearby. They plan a rescue mission to retrieve him and use the knowledge he undoubtedly has to turn the tide of the war against the cyborgs...
THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS: Cyborg X is a 2016 film and the fourth film in the Cyborg series of films. That said, the film has no ties with any of the previous films other than the name, and the year it is set would, in theory, make it a prequel. However, nothing in the film itself shows up in the others. The weapons manufacturer X-Corp has developed a new form of warfare in the form of cyborg drones that can implant and control humans, but when a computer virus infects the system, the weapons attack humans indiscriminately, reducing the world to a very familiar post-apocalyptic wasteland. In the aftermath, we find ourselves in a desert in the middle of nowhere: the favourite setting of post-apocalyptic films that have no budget to build sets. A group of survivors are banded together here and discover that the X-Corp CEO Jack Kilmore has been kidnapped by cyborgs nearby and mount a mission to rescue him, figuring he has knowledge that can be used to win the war. A very typical story (a bit too "inpspired" by Terminator at some points) accompanied by a typical cast of mediocre characters leave this film dull and predictable, although you shouldn't be expecting much considering the obvious lack of budget and wooden acting.
The film has a fair amount of violence and gore, but the effects aren't particularly great. There's one scene where a guy wakes up to find the entire lower body is missing, and he just starts crawling with his insides hanging out and shooting cyborgs without any regard for logic and the fact he should be long dead. The CG effects are even worse, and aren't going to convince anyone. All of the cyborgs have the same look to them as well, which is strikingly similar to Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. It's a bit odd how the cyborgs are supposed to be humans who have had this drone thing attached to their face and transformed, but they all manage to look exactly the same for some reason, probably just because they could only afford to outfit one guy with the gear. Nothing in this film feels authentic, entertaining or exciting, it's just another low budget post-apocalypse mess that fails to do anything noteworthy.
