Coping with the stress of cycle tests
#Articles
Cycle tests- scheduled weekly, they have the power to reduce even the most seasoned, confident, strong-minded academic into a quivering, nervous wreck. It's the time of truth, when your parents and teachers alike will be able to gauge exactly how well you have been doing your work thus far. Here's some tips to make cycle tests for for you:
Study in advance
Partying the weekend before or procrastinating are definite no-nos! Then comes Monday afternoon and you have to swot like crazy for Tuesday morning's test! My advice is to balance work and play-sure, you can have some friends over or a family gathering, but make time to revise too!
Clear up any uncertainties
When you see the relevant teacher in class, that's the best time to ask questions. Research or download apps that can help you with a specific section. It sure beats staring at the cycle test blankly, inwardly kicking yourself because it's a concept you didn't understand, but didn't ask about.
Get enough sleep
There's nothing as depressing as trying to go all the way in a test with your tank only half-full, so pulling an all-nighter won't help your cause. Manage your time so that you get all your work done during daylight hours(there also is the danger of load-shedding, which is a story for another day), in time to get 8 or more hours of sleep. If you still feel the need to revise, rise early and shine.
Don't cram just before a test period
My friends and I tend to skim through our notes just before a test, but it's a bad habit that we have to stop! This is the ideal way to cloud up your focus and stress you out, especially if you come across something you forgot to learn! Remember, if you don't know something minutes before the test, you're never going to know it in time anyway, so it is pointless getting flustered and messing up the rest of your test.
Network and study with your friends
It's a fabulous idea to ask friends in different classes about their teacher's pearls of wisdom about a particular test. Also, you and your friends should meet up to study for that killer cycle test, making studying FUN!!! This will automatically alleviate test stress and hopefully improve your marks.
It's important to do well in cycle tests, but remember that it's not a train-smash if you don't do as well as you would like. Your end-of-year exams is the destination of your cycle test stepping stones, and could possibly count for more in your year mark.
Work hard, try your best and NEVER GIVE UP HOPE.
