“Funny how almost dying can make you feel lucky just to be alive” said Lorne darkly. This had been the second time in 8 years that had happened to him. “I suppose by that definition, I’m the luckiest bastard who ever lived.” He nodded his head. “Sleep keeps the mind sharp.” Which was important when you were on an island with people who were the enemy. There was no telling when another royal might get it into their head to do something stupid, like start a fire. “Were they?” he asked in surprise. “Last time I spoke to both of them, one hit me and the other thought I was a ghost.”

“I appreciate that” she said. She knew comforting others didn’t come easily to some of the pirates. She sighed, before she said “Nora is sick. I know she’s in good hands with Roza taking care of her, but that doesn’t keep me from worrying.”

Celeste rolled her eyes. “Look, clearly something has gone wrong” she said. “I was giving you a chance to control the story. But if you’re going to be that way, I’ll just have to get the dirt from someone else.” She’d been around the pirates long enough to know that some of them loved to gossip almost as much as the royals did. “Perhaps a less reliable source” she added to emphasis her point. “Unless, of course, you don’t actually know what’s going on.” Now there was an idea. Had the pirates been blindsided by something their oh so perfect plan hadn’t accounted for?

Kinzie hummed in agreement, smiling sleepily as she padded fully into his bedroom and made her way over to the bed. She knelt at the edge of the bed, the mattress dipping under her weight, and crawled to him, situating herself side him. She curled up against him, resting her head against his chest. “Thanks,” she said quietly. Despite the fact that most of their rendezvous were sexual in nature, she found that Cyd was one of the most genuine friends she had, and she was glad she could come to him when she was feeling down. “You’re a very large teddy bear, Cyd Gallowglass,” she teased, tiredly. Her voice was barely above a whisper. “But don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. Wouldn’t want to ruin your cred.”
